The Lotus Evora 2+2 may have already been revealed in all its heaviness, but we've only seen it in a generic silver paint. These new shots show the Lotus blooming in a vivid blue hue while testing on the Nürburgring. We're pretty sure this is just the standard 276 HP, 2967-lb model doing some final testing, but who knows, maybe Lotus is planning a model that's actually in keeping with the brand's traditional virtues of lightweight sports cars. Yeah, probably not. Matchbox has been working closely with Lotus for about nine months creating this 1/64 scale version of the new Lotus Evora. What you see here is obviously a prototype though, as the actual toy won't go on sale until later this year. We know the full-scale Lotus 2+2 isn't exactly following in Colin Chapman's philosophy of "adding lightness," but we'll have to see how well Matchbox has replicated that particular trait. When the Lotus Evora debuted yesterday, we were surprised nobody made mention of the weight — it didn't show up during the live press conference, in any of the specs on the web, or in the initial press release. The real press release on the Evora has finally emerged and, drum roll, the figure is 1,350 kg, or 2,976 lbs. Shocking. We were hoping for 2,200 lbs, maybe 2,700 lbs being realistic, but nearly a ton and a half has us shocked. Not only that, but a lot more options have us scratching our heads. Does this change the way we'll look at the little 2+2? Discussion and press release below the fold. More »

Sure, we already knew what the new 2+2 from Lotus looked like — but we didn't know the name — until now. It's called the Lotus Evora. Yes, with the stroke of the "E" key, Lotus has added yet another E-word to the lexicon of Lotus history. The Evora is equipped with a 276 HP Toyota V6 making 252 lb-ft of torque and a six-speed gearbox, good for sub-5 second 0-60 runs. Of course, in the press conference, in proper British style, the only remarks on speed were, "We won't give you the speeds at the moment, because it wouldn't be appropriate, not with so many police around." More »

The British motoring rags are clamoring to reveal "exclusive" details of the 2010 Lotus Eagle. Yesterday, CAR brought us the first shot of the exterior of the new Lotus 2+2. Today, Autocar brings us the first interior shots and details of the powertrain. Even Lotus has gotten in on the act, issuing a press release that's full of hints about future high performance and convertible derivatives. All this is good for you because it means we can finally bring you some real analysis of the facts surrounding the $90,000 car that won't even be called Eagle. <a href="http://jalopnik.com/398638/the-2010-lotus-eagle-has-landed-with-new-pictures-analysis" title="Click here to read more about The 2010 Lotus "Eagle" Has Landed With New Pictures, Analysis">More »

Ferrari played their cards extremely well with the 2009 Ferrari California debut — it was stylish, it was measured, and it had the motoring press lapping out of the palms of their hands (a perfect example is today's spy photo of a topless California; see how Wert just laps it up? ). Lotus seems to be copying that campaign for the rollout of the pending 2010 Lotus Eagle, but this time, the marketing effort is decidedly more creepy. The "FacelessPeople" ad campaign consists at the moment of a website with a countdown timer, and, more bizarrely, people without faces attending public events wearing Lotus badges. Gah! Heebie jeebies anyone? Apparently the "True Character Will Emerge" in about 18 days. We're assuming that means they'll put a face on the much-anticipated new Eagle instead of covering it in a sheet. More »

We've spent months seeing the 2010 Lotus Eagle in get-ups ranging from an old Lotus Esprit mule to an homage to the caped crusader with makeup and heavy camo obscura. Now, thanks to a single image making its way onto the internet by way of Lotus, we're now finally get our first idea of the Eagle's real shape. The teaser shot hints at a surprisingly Elise-like hood and headlight treatment. Visible under the shroud of Lotus, the sharp fenders and slanted headlight treatment are clearly visible, as is the center hood spine over the front mounted radiator outlets. More »

We can't get enough of the 2010 Lotus Eagle and its Batman-esque camo. We showed you photos of the Lotus Eagle at the Nürburgring about a week ago, and now we have what we're thinking is the accompanying video of it driving in and around the ring. As we see more angles it looks like perhaps that's a rich black or dark blue color underneath all that tape. Also, round brake lights? On a Lotus? Crazy talk. The upcoming Lotus 2+2 known as the "Eagle" was spotted again, this time at the Nürburgring. Unfortunately, it still is wearing the full camo inspired by Batman's mask. The report from Bridge To Gantry is that the Lotus isn't even doing hot laps, instead just cruising around at a casual pace. that's disappointing because the Eagle is supposed to be powered by a juicy 3.5-liter V6. It seems like Lotus is trying to take down the Porsche 911, but we'll have to wait and see just how fast it is, and what it looks like in unmasked Bruce Wayne form. More »

Those naughty folks at a Lotus are giving us the old "San Antonio Strip Tease" by releasing photos of the Lotus Eagle one piece at a time. While this doesn't give any hints to how the new 2+2 sports car is actually going to look, it does give some idea to as to the suspension setup. Using the new Versatile Vehicle Architecture (VVA), Lotus will be able to build a variety of cars using one platform, which is economical for a small manufacturer. The VVA setup includes three pieces: center occupant area, front module and rear subframe for the engine. This is a photo of the front module which is light (just 55 pounds) and functional thanks to the use of parts forged from aluminum. The setup will include aluminum control arms with Bilstein dampers and Eichbach springs. Bringing things to a stop will be the job of 13.8-inch vented rotors with Lotus AP Racing four-pots. The Eagle will also feature hydraulic assist for the steering rack, separating it from its Elise brethren. Press release below the jump. More »

The 2010 Lotus Eagle, the new Lotus 2+2 sports car we've all been waiting for, has possibly been spotted for the first time in production trim (we saw this possible Lotus Eagle mule testing in November). The driver of this prototype was unlucky enough to be captured just outside of the Bosch arctic testing facility, possibly out for a quick cocoa — or some kind of sneak preview viewing of the new Batman movie where he's decided to dress up the proto as the caped crusader. This new 2+2 should be slotted somewhere between the Elise and the next-gen Esprit in the Lotus lineup and fill the niche for people who like the Elise but would like a little room to carry passengers and gear. Or have two children with no legs. Rumors are that the Eagle's engine will be a V6 sourced from Toyota, and will likely be offered in displacements of 2.5- and 3.0-liters. Horsepower figures are expected somewhere between 200 and 300, making the new Lotus 2+2 a compelling performer, with zero-to-sixty times expected to be in the low five-second range. But heck, what do we know — we're just calling it the "2010" because it sounds good. Full spy report below the jump and more pictures in a moment. More »

The only thing we know about this mule spotted out and about — somewhere is that it's a Lotus test mule. Our sources claim it's a mule for the Lotus "Project Eagle" a supposed 2+2 tourer powered by a mid-mounted, transverse Toyota V6 and it's set to be revealed by the blossom-flower-brand sometime next year — possibly at the Geneva Auto Show, although latest word direct from the mouth of Mike Kimberley, CEO of Lotus was that we'd see it at the London Auto Show. The "Eagle" is then slated to take flight and alight in showrooms beginning in Europe in 2009 as a 2010 model. Did we mention it's also supposed to have paddle shifters? Other sources tell us these pictures could be a mule for the new Esprit and still others tell us "It's a Lotus mule, who the heck really knows what's under there?" Why don't you thumb through the shots below and tell us what you think it is. More »
