Online petitions to the White House rarely meet the goal needed to get a response. But the petition to kill the 25-year import ban has 55,000 signatures. That means it needs just 45,000 more. Let's get it done.
The petition seeks to change the regulation for importing out of spec cars from 25 years to 15 years. That's not unreasonable at all. And if the petition meets the 100,000 goal, it shows that there's a real chance for change.
Plus, the safety standards of cars from 15 years ago in other nations are not appreciably different than those in the US. Also, funds used to target grey market importers could be better directed elsewhere.
So sign the petition. What can it hurt?
