Because apparently the existing FQ360 wasn't F-ing Quick enough, the report from AutoExpress is that Mitsubishi has now greenlit an FQ400 version of the Lancer Evo X. We didn't have much of a chance to open up the taps when we drove the 291 HP 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR, but seeing as the FQ400 name indicates output of 400 HP, we can only imagine how much faster it'll be than what we have in the states. That's right, the FQ isn't coming here, as it'll be tuned in the UK, where it will likely receive an upgraded turbocharger, exhaust, engine computer and fuel system. The results will be stunning. Yesterday, we were surprised and relieved to see that the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR managed to package real Evo performance into a package that was both livable and restrained. Now it seems the aftermarket is doing everything possible to counteract both of those qualities with tacky, non-functional carbon add-ons that will once again make the Evo the preserve of the ricer. The worst offender? The fake vortex generator that sticks onto the rear glass. The new Lancer shape doesn't suffer from the same aerodynamic difficulties that the old model did, rendering this completely and utterly useless. ChargeSpeed, you should be ashamed. Mitsubishi has announced that it will be entering an all new crossover "Racing Lancer" in the 2009 Dakar Rally in South America. The new car will be a three door platform inspired by the Pajero and Lancer Sportback, and will serve as a test bed for Mitsubishi's diesel program. That's right, this Lancer will be sporting a 3.0-liter, turbocharged, V6 diesel engine with 254 HP and a stonkin' 480 lb-ft of torque. Slotting between the regular FWD Lancer 2.4 GTS and the balls-out rally car Evo X, the Ralliart seeks to put Mitsubishi on the shopping list of folks who might consider, say, a WRX but not a full-bore STi.

I spotted this car just a few minutes after shooting the '54 Chevy, and I must admit I was far more excited over the 27-year-old Plymouth than I was with 53-year-old Chevrolet. At first glance, the Fire Arrow seems to be just another tape-striped Late Malaise turd in disco colors, but lurking under its oxidized, arrow-decal-bedecked hood is the mighty 2.6 liter Mitsubishi Astron engine! The Ralliart is Mitsubishi's middle man between the Mitsubishi Lancer GTS and the Lancer EVO. The obvious rally-inspired Ralliart has a 2.0-liter, four cylinder engine sporting 235 horsepower, which is up 67 hp from the GTS, but not quite the 291 of the latest Evolution X has. It does feature Mitsubishi's dual-clutch SST automanual with paddle shifters and an active center differential to let you rally your little heart out in suburbia America. Someone claiming to be an employee of a Mistubishi dealer in California managed to snap a photo of he's claiming is the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart "on the way to an auto show." We're going to go out on a limb and say it's for the official unveiling at the Detroit Auto Show. Mitsubishi of Europe already announced that the not-quite-evo Lancer Ralliart across the pond will get a detuned version of the 2.0 liter Dual Valve VVT Turbo engine found in the Evo good for approximately 240 horsepower, so we're going to assume that's what we're getting over here. As we mentioned, Team Orange and Nobushige Kumakubo won Saturday's international drift event at the D1 Grand Prix at Irwindale. They did so in an insanely hopped up Mitsubishi EVO IX. That cold intake pipe looks to be 4". Never mind what's happening on the hot side (i.e. bigger). We would just like to point out that drifting rocks because 20-year-old 1600 cc Corollas compete with 8.3-liter V10 Vipers. Not only compete, the Toyota (which was running nitrous) beat the Viper and about two thirds of the other competition. The Viper was actually Nick "p***y magnet" Hogan's drifter, but Team Shift Into Gear sprayed it black to distance themselves from the mini-Hulkster's jackassery. For those about to embarrass yourself by saying something idiotic such as, "Ricers suck," the fan favorites were without question a Mustang and a Charger. I cheered my ass off for Sam Hubinette and his 600 hp SRT8 and the judges kept awarding Vaughn Gittin's Stang 120 points (out of 100 — that's how rad he was). In the end though, Kumakubo and his rip-roaring, Godzilla spankin' EVO were just too much. More »

With a new 2.0-liter MIVEC four and a new (or, in some cases, improved) set of AWD drivetrain components — including a new twin-clutch transmission (SST) — and running gear, the car that taught a generation of boy-racer types what "yaw" means will debut at the equivalent of $30,388 ($32,605 with twin-clutch SST transmission). A stripped-down, weight-reduced RS competition model will go for $26,042. No word on US pricing. The SST automanual will debut in November. The JDM watchers at Nihon Car spied the upcoming Mitsubishi Evo X in Ralliart trim. It was at Tokyo's "Motor Sport Japan 2007," a spectacular of the latest JDM hardware. Mitsubishi's sent more shots of its new styling prototype, the Concept-cX into the digital ether following the appearance of a one-shot yesterday. Conceptually, it's an urban-oriented soft roader that assumes European tolerances for size and fuel suckage. It's powered by a 1.8-liter clean diesel (Euro-5 compliant) engine over Mitsubishi's new Twin Clutch SST (Sport Shift Transmission) — a competitor to VW/Audi-Borg Warner's DSG box the company says improves both performance and fuel economy. Outside, it shares design cues with the new Lancer, which will make its European debut in Frankfurt. The Concept-cX's interior and trim materials are made from a plastic derived from bamboo and other plant-based resins. Further proof that the definition of a classic car is changing as time marches on is this Plymouth Fire Arrow on eBay. The seller built this Fire Arrow using the parts from a rough original, and a body from a regular Arrow. He even had of custom set of Fire Arrow decals made to replace the originals. The Fire Arrow was a Plymouth take on the Mitsubishi Lancer Celeste, and had nothing to to with the also sold-as-a-Plymouth Sunbeam Arrow. The rear-drive Fire Arrow packed a 2.6L four, a five-speed, and four-wheel disc brakes. '70s adverts for the Arrow featured Harry Nilsson's Me and My Arrow as the jingle. The song arose from a fable Nilsson conceived while on acid and gazing at tree branches called The Point! We're holding out for a tow yard auction Arrow to appear so we can replace the atmospheric 2.6L with a turbocharged Starion mill. It looks like spy shooter Hans Lehmann ain't the only quick-shot in town, Brenda "12.1 Megapixel-Shooter" Priddy's also snagged herself some pictures of what appears to be a very high-tech looking 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer...umm...Ralliart edition? As you can see from the pictures, the intercooler's clearly visible behind the mesh grille and this turbocharged not-so-ordinary Mitsubishi has dual exhaust pipes plus 18-inch GTS-like wheels. And since it sure isn't the new Evolution as it's lacking both the flared fenders and EVO wing, Priddy's thinking it's the '09 up-powered "Ralliart." Mitsubishi's answer to the Subaru WRX may be afoot. It's the Lancer in sub-Evo trim, though the intercooler, dual exhausts and 18" alloys say it's more potent than the GTS model. Potentially, this model, caught in Death Valley recently, could be the oft-discussed Ralliart-tuned Lancer or some similar manner of WRX fighter.
