Travis Pastrana, rally driver and motorcycle stuntman extraordinaire, has completed the world's first Hydrojump. The stunt consisted of mooring a ramp 110 feet from the shore in five-foot deep water. He then raced his motocross bike at the water in excess of 70mph, keeping the power on as he went feet wet. This was fast enough for him to hydroplane all the way out to the ramp and jump off of it. The bike was completely stock, with no flotation devices or special tires.

So we know we're in for some hoonage when we first spy these scruffy THC-enhanced gentlemen on the screen, and hoonage we get as they take a beater Ford Laser (a restyled Australian Mazda 323 and close Mercury Capri relative) and get some impressive jump height. +10 points for the excellent altitude and another 5 for the joint hanging from the driver's lips... but then the deductions start: -5 points for cranking the NOFX so freakin' loud we can't hear the car (dudes, we know your choice of Hoon Toon is all rebellious and shit, but put it on your ringback sound or something, eh?) and -7 points for freezing the video at the high point of the best jump. I mean, like, WTF? You freeze the video on one of the goddamn replays of the jump, not the only one we get to see! Stupid hoons! During the formative years of ages six through eleven, this Jalop lived a short bike ride from one of Evel Knievel's most spectacular failures (aside from the bone-crushing incident outside Caesar's Palace). That is, his 1974 attempt to jump the Snake River Canyon. Evel, the "paintron" saint of hoonage, hired an ex-NASA engineer to design and build what came to be called the X-2 Skycycle, a steam-powered missile that happened to have two wheels. With this batshit contraption he planned to jump a section of the holy-crap-that's-really-deep gorge and live to tell about it. Unfortunately fate had a different idea and the drogue chute opened at liftoff, sending the cycle crashing into the rocky walls of the canyon. Now that the awesome history lesson is covered, it's time to pony up about $5 million to buy the leftovers (sweet, Mulally will take two!). The Evel Knievel Daredevil and Harley Davidson Museum of Niagara Falls somehow managed to get their sneaky Canadian mitts on it, and is now auctioning it — and the Knievel Exhibit — for a huge profit. You've got your magic flying hippie bus option, the "I'm outraged that was done with a vintage Bus" method, "I can't believe I didn't try that first", and of course the SUPER FLYING BRUCE POTENTIAL angle. Being of simple upbringing, I think the funniest is to imagine that this is footage from the long lost episode in which the Duke boys finally had to sell off the General Lee in order to save the farm from the evil Boss Hogg. This of course would be the scene in which the Boys were suspected of runnin' moonshine and Rosco and Enos are hot on their trail but about to sink, defeated, in the deceptively deep water.
