What we do know is this futuristic interpretation of the Homer is part VW Rabbit and was found near Huntsville, Alabama, aka "Rocket City" and home to the Marshall Space Flight Center and Redstone Arsenal. So is this the result of a frustrated wanna-be missile engineer trying to stick it to the man, or just the product of an actual aerospace engineer overcome by hydrazine fumes once too often? There were some pretty dang fast Fords at Milan Dragway last weekend, but one car tearing up the strip wasn't a Ford at all. Yep, we're talking about the 300 MPH jet-powered dragster driven by Elaine Larsen. Basically, it's a Pratt & Whitney J-60 with wheels and a cockpit, and it was all home-built by the Larsen family with some imput from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Weighing in at just 1350 pounds with fuel and driver, the car burns about 25 gallons of fuel during the sub-6 second quarter-mile runs. Easily making it the fastest car at the track. More »

This sci-fi wet dream is Star Raider, a ground act for the 2007 Naval Base Ventura County Air Show. The dragster is powered by two Rolls Royce Viper jet engines and driven by builder and owner Bruce Abbott. Why it's shaped like a melted Buran and runs at air shows is anybodies guess, but the key point here is two jet engines on a drag racer. That's some serious thrust there, a little digging around tells us the least thrust one of these babies puts out is 2000 lbs. Double that and tweak for more power and you've got the makings for a face stuck in permasmile. More »

We actually were wondering a few months back whatever happened to the infamous "Vampire" jet car Top Gear's Richard Hammond took to the obscenely crashtastic speed of 280+ mph and then did just that to it. Well, now we know. Apparently the Vampire's been stored in a warehouse about 40 miles north of London since the crash investigation was completed sometimes around this time last year. It seems where it goes next is totally up for grabs. It appears, according to an auction up on eBay UK at the moment, that the owner's looking to part ways with this unique piece of automotive history in order to pay for some health care needs. Clive Sinclair is largely famous for a line of groundbreaking and affordable personal computers packing as much as 48K of code crunching RAM. Sinclair also attempted to segue his success in computers into a personal transportation device known as the C5. Sales tanked, as the trike had about as much horsepower as a Timex-Sinclair. Classic quarter mile run-what-you-brung drag racing will soon be a thing of the past in Los Angeles county. With the coming demise of Los Angeles County Raceway, and the never ending march of the red tile roofed homes into what was once the middle of nowhere, the state of the California drag strip is in peril. Not so at Sacramento Raceway. Even now they host a Saturday test-and-tune, and every summer the track throws a vast array of internal combustion freak outs. The jet car burn at the annual Nights of Fire event is not to be missed. Above is a shot of a Chevy van being incinerated while chained to the back of a jet dragster. Johan Jacobs, the "World's Fastest South African," was killed when his jet-powered dragster flipped over and disintegrated at 300 miles per hour. The accident happened on a trial run, a day before he was to make a run at the a land speed record he set this past March, at 316 mph.
