According to World Car Fans, there's something new about the 2009 Lexus IS250. We're having a tough time determining exactly what changes were made from the previous generation — it looks like there's been a minor change to the front splitter, those look like new wheels and the side mirrors appear to be a touch more stretched out from their base than the current model. Actually, we're told it's all these things — plus some new interior colors and revised stability software. The folks over at the My.IS forum claim to have a set of scans of a Japanese brochure for the 2009 Lexus IS. The timing make sense, given that the current Lexus IS design is getting a bit long in the tooth. Though the bits of metal flesh we get to see aren't drastically different from the current generation, there is a slightly tweaked grille, there are a few more details we know. More »

Remember that mystery Lexus IS circling the ring last week? Due to the camo, guesses as to what it could be ranged from a new hybrid to a mid-cycle refresh. Turns out that the most obvious answer was right: it's a race car. Those questionable hood bumps were merely an illusion created by the camouflage. This is the TME/Team Gazoo IS 250, which competes in the ADAC endurance series and can be seen fighting for the Rennstrecken Trophy at the ring. The fastest lap? Just under 10:58. Though not quite Cadillac CTS-V fast, the IS is in a group that only allows vehicles with displacements from 2.0- to 2.5-liters (sorry Lexus IS-F). Lexus's Austrailian aftermarket team went arse over tit for 50 Cent's chrome Lamborghini, to paraphrase today's press release. So much so that the accessory squad worked up a chrome-like IS250 for the Oz market. It's layered in Alsa Corp.'s MirraChrome paint, a reflective formulation that contains microscopic bits of shiny metal, giving it the look of chrome without the six-figure bodyshop bill. In production since earlier this year, the special IS also gets Lexus factory add-ons including a body kit comprising front lower spoiler, side skirts, rear lower skirt and trunk spoiler, and polished alloys. The all-new entry Lexus will hit showrooms in two days, and the Toyota division is finally talking price. The IS 250 gets about as close to $30,000 as you can get and still have enough for a pack of smokes (and a box of Tic Tacs). MSRP for the IS starts at $29,990 (rear-wheel drive, six-speed manual); $31,160 with sequential autobox and paddle shifters; $34,285 for all-wheel drive.
