From the looks of it this old (1959 or 1960) International Harvester Travelall saw some serious work duty before it ended up in this Alabama Junkyard. Without any remaining signage to give us a clue we can only wonder what trade this rare IH was employed in before it retired. More »

Not only was it small on the outside and roomy on the inside, the 1974 International Scout still had a lot of space for a lot of things. For this reason, it seemed only sensible to replace your compact car, luxury car, or station wagon with an International Scout as demonstrated in this piece of vintage advertising genius from IH. More »

Although this 1964 Ford Ranchero may look like your average vintage Ranchero (if there is such a thing), don't be fooled by your first impression. Under the hood of this unassuming car/truck hybrid lurks an equally unassuming but loud and smelly 198ci Nissan Diesel. More »

Let's review what's going on here: This is a Model T. It's powered by a Boeing T50/Model 502 gas turbine, the same thing the government once put in helicopters and anti-submarine drones. Now you can buy it on eBay. Following yesterday's hind end reveal of the Fisker Karma Tesla-killer, today we get a low-resolution peek at its nose ahead of an official reveal at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. Again we see the production-intent car mimics the concept car almost identically, though the grille is revised nicely for a much sleeker look. But what of the details of this unique luxury automobile? More »

International, makers of the stupidly huge and awesome CXT, MXT and RXT $90,000+ luxury consumer trucks, has killed its consumer products division. You can guess why: The rise of green fashion, gas prices and the whole "America doesn’t have money anymore" thing. The company will now focus exclusively on their commercial and military ranges. This weekend weekend of bad motorsports keeps getting worse. Yesterday, Scott Kalitta. Today, Dino Crescentini, a ten-year veteran of vintage racing, died at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, when the Wolf Dallara Can-Am car he was driving — a car once owned by Canadian industrialist and Formula One team owner Walter Wolf and driven in the 1977 Can-Am Series by the legendary Canadian Gilles Villeneuve — apparently went sideways at very high speed. Crescentini was participating in a race as part of the 29th International Vintage Racing Festival at the track. Inspector Paul Hamilton of the Durham Regional Police tells us
"...[the driver] was heading northbound from corner six at Mosport. After this corner is a long straightaway and at some point his vehicle became airborne at an extremely high rate of speed and rolled end-over-end. The driver was transported to Bowmanville hospital where he succumbed to his injuries."
An at-the-scene account from tipster John below the jump: More »

Here we have one of those projects that's just downright puzzling. Say you've got a 1948 International Harvester K-1 truck with a '48 Chrysler straight-eight flathead engine, you're packing serious metalworking skills, and you want to make something different. There's only one logical choice: you graft a Suzuki Samurai body onto it, add a long Zimmer-style hood, and you get a "parade car" for the ages. The Buy It Now is under seven grand, which is a steal given the level of craftsmanship. We're thinking race-car tow vehicle here. Thanks to UDMan for finding this one! [eBay Motors] <a href="http://jalopnik.com/395599/1948-ih-truck-plus-suzuki-samurai-plus-lots-of-work-equals-parade-car" title="Click here to read more about 1948 IH Truck Plus Suzuki Samurai Plus Lots Of Work Equals... After bright red Cadillac El Dorados and desert racers, we can imagine no other vehicle more capable of evoking gonzo journalistic activities than this International Motorhome. Sure it's a little rusty now, and this particular model would require the addition of a very powerful engine and multiple drug cabinets, but it's there, lurking beneath that perfectly patina'd yellow paint — the call of the open road. This gem is practically begging for misadventure and with only a day left it's going for a scant $1,047.22. Someone needs to get this before we do. <a href="http://jalopnik.com/394834/1957-international-metro-motor-home-could-make-anyone-into-hunter-s-thompson" title="Click here to read more about 1957 International Metro Motor Home Could Make Anyone Into Hunter S. International didn't just bring it's super <del>shredder</del> semi, the International LoneStar to the show. They also brought the US Military's latest wheeled transport, the International MaxxPro. The imposing vehicle is basically a purpose-built mobile bomb shelter, capable of taking a hit from any direction, as well as fording bodies of water as deep as 36 inches, just for the hell of it. When we opened the door—or more precisely, tried to open the door—we had to abandon all all our stuff and put our weight behind the effort. The thick armor plated doors were almost as heavy as the ones on an old Mark VIII. While the Humvee is impressive in its general-purpose skills, this thing is just a plain beast. We want a test drive of the take home version. Any vehicle with gun portals gets an "A" in our book. More »

There's a funny thing about auto shows; from the outside, they appear to be all glitz and glamor, high-dollar extravaganzas to draw the attention of the nearest journalist, and later the consumer. In actuality, they are crushingly boring, highly stressed, cynical, irritating events which grow tiresome from both the PR side and the coverage side. Still, it's fun when you see something unexpected pop up on the floor. The new International LoneStar is definitely outside the mainstream of the average motor show. It was a welcome respite. We're digging the grill because it reminds us of the Shredder's helmet and mask. As a special bonus above that, the truck can be equipped with any of 42 different accessories, ranging from lights to shift knobs to acres of excess chrome. International has certainly switched its truck line from suck to blow.

The General's finally come to an agreement on selling their not-so-profitable medium duty truck business to Navistar, the owners of International Truck and Engine. That means the Navistar folks will now be responsible for making the GMC TopKick and the Chevrolet Kodiak, moving production from GM's plant in Flint, Mich., to a Navistar facility to be named at a later date. Well, as long as they're still going to be making replacement parts for Ironhide, what do we care? What you see above is an International MXT. It is a vehicle that the United States Border Patrol, no doubt through grants from the Department of Homeland Security, has deemed a reasonable vehicle to patrol the highest traffic border crossing between the United States and Canada, the Detroit-Windsor crossing. There are, shall we say, a couple of things wrong here. First, this particular unit was caught outside of Mexican Fiesta in Dearborn during the lunch hour feeding frenzy. To help visualize the distance between said establishment and the nearest border crossing, we've employed the services of Google Earth after the leap. More »

In what is clearly a great moral victory for America in a time when victories are rare, akin perhaps to Kurt Russell's defeat of the soviet hockey team in that movie, Scotland has decided to invest in a technology that the U.S. of A. has been a leader in for decades: the big yellow school bus. Based on a study that showed 40% of primary school children and 30% of secondary students get to school by car, local officials see it as a move that could relieve congestion. Said a local MP "These iconic vehicles have been providing safe means of carrying children to and from school for generations in North America." America! America! America! Take that Europe, with your efficient public transportation system and higher densities that have limited the necessity for school bussing. Mr. Murilee Martin is busy putting the finishing touches on what will surely be a PCH to bust all your knuckles through the computer screen, so I'm stepping in to fill his greasy, engine-hoisting shoes. A 42-year run is pretty good for anything, let alone an engine. But that's how long AMC's straight-6 was getting stuffed into new cars. Starting in 1964 as an option for both the Ambassador and the Classic, you could still get some OG inline-6 goodness up until just last year (2006) in a Wrangler. How could you even estimate how many billions of miles (on and off road) these soldiers marched, or how many zillions of smiles they produced along the way? Some notable cars the AMC I6 motivated: International Harvester Scout, AMC Hornet, Matador, Gremlin, Pacer, Jeep Commando, Comanche and nearest and dearest to my heart, the Cherokee. And seeing as how the no-safety reg Cherokee weighed just 3,300 lbs, the 4.0-liter straight-6 with its 190 hp made the truck way more amusing to drive than it had a right to be. AMC RIP. Chrysler Group just dropped a release letting us know they're planning on expanding "dealer operations in key markets outside North America." They've brought in 70 potential investors from places like Russia and Japan for a forum to get a sneak peek at "sales outlet ownership opportunities." Well — looks like someone hasn't yet learned about the problems of dealerships not owned by the automaker. Maybe someone should have read the Detroit Free Press this week. FoMoCo execs are breathing a sigh of relief this morning after Oakland County Circuit Judge John McDonald issued a temporary restraining order requiring Navistar International Corp. to resume production and shipments on the 6.4-liter diesel PowerStroke engines used in Ford's big n' bold F-Series Super-Duty haulers. That'll let Ford reverse it's decision early yesterday to reduce shifts at their Louisville, KY truck plant — ensuring a steady stream of profit-heavy trucks will continue to flow into the hands of consumers. The folks at the big ol' truck company of International probably felt pretty cool last week creating a tricked-out Chicago Bears edition of their new MXT uber-truck for the Chicago Auto Show. After the Bears busted performance this past weekend, it just looked kind of sad and forlorn sitting over in the corner of International's display here. Oh well, maybe next year they'll have a quarterback worthy enough to warrant an 8' wide, 7'7" high Diesel V8 monster like this MXT. Although we've got to say, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 14,500 lbs, this ginormo-hauler's only a little bit larger than the size of their offensive line — combined. Four pictures in the gallery below and then head on over to the road that's never straight via the link below. – Ray Wert More »

We think if we were going to drive a stretch vehicle, this International Travelall would pretty much have to be it. This '71 model is apparently one of 24 converted for use on military bases. Featuring a 392-inch V8 for what we can only imagine was marginally-adequate acceleration. That said, nobody ever bought an International for its speed. Bidding ends on January 3rd and it's just over 3k at the moment, but this thing looks like an absolute hoot. This would make a fine Jalopnik mobile-blogging staff car. Denton, please fire up your eBay account and buy it us. Pleeeeeeease? – Davey G. Our friends at GotDetroit got the right idea on the Delphi bankruptcy court hearings — pointing out the lunacy inherent in the two arguments made by Delphi and their customer/friend International Truck and Engine. And we thought it was just lilly-livered East Coast Richie Rich-types sportin' love of the CXT, International's extreme truck-o-saurus. Apparently, you can even find this beast of burden in agri-towns like Kalamazoo, MI — which is where Jalopnik tipster Erin R. snapped these shots. Apparently, International Trucks is the new hotness over in Michigan's asparagus belt, and the CXT represents the hottest of the hot. So take a gander at the following pics of the front-end of this tank-like tonka out in K-Zoo. More »

International Truck and Engine (i.e., the school-bus company) took the really huge wraps off the newest in its line of extreme pickups. The MXT, as it's called, joins the RXT and CXT among its line of pickup-beded vehicles built on its large-truck platform. It's designed and built from the ground up (they didn't purloin an existing truck cab), and will cost in spec'd-up Escalade country, between $70,000 and $85,000, when it's launched this summer. Look for it in the driveway of someone "who wants to make a powerful statement about who they are" (read: don't ask) near you. More »

Nothing says "I can crush you into recyclables" like a rainbow of pastels. It may be hard to tell from the photo, but truckbulder International's CXT extreme pickup on display in Chicago has the most darling paint scheme, encompassing light gray, peach and teal. The only thing missing is a unicorn poster hung in the cab and "dear diary" written in pinstripe script across the hood. Nonetheless, the company plans to unveil an even more extreme pickup tomorrow morning. And no, they say it's not the Hello Kitty edition, it's the MXT. Hopefully that one's for boys. More »

We know we already groused and grumbled about a cake-taking CXT a couple of days ago. But we must admit that we were wrong. This CXT doesn't just run off with Grandma's rum cake, it also swipes the bundt pan it rode in on. Fenderwell-mounted TV screens that apparently show Country Music Television exclusively? If there was one true fucked-up example of the dark side of American ingenuity at the show, this vehicle is it. More »

One of the joys of SEMA are the i-can't-believe-they-actually-did-that guffaws that involuntarily rumble up from one's belly upon laying eyes upon some of the more ridiculous creations. The International CXT has been the target of our ire on a couple of previous occasions, but this flamed de-luxe example takes the cake. We really have nothing to say other than it's a classic example of buffing a turd by crossing the line from ridiculous to completely ludicrous. More »
