Rather than deal with the usual issues of a long-lead press drive engendering spy shot after spy shot of the new 2009 Acura TSX, the boys and girls from Honda's luxe brand have decided to just drop a single shot of the new TSX out the day before the press drive begins. The shot shows off basically everything you need to know about the exterior of the new TSX, giving you a real taste of that new double-plenum power grille (just like its big brother, the 2009 Acura RL, revealed in Chicago last week). In addition they've also announced we'll be seeing a performance version of the new TL sometime later this year. But for the moment, here's the deal — the new Acura TSX is coming to the New York Auto Show, and we'd like to say more, but you'll have to wait until the embargo's up on our fearless leader getting behind the wheel this week out West — and whether the new TSX will be powered by Honda's new i-DTEC clean diesel powerplant. Honda have just announced that their new i-DTEC will debut in North America in a 2009 Acura model. The engine will follow in a Honda the following year. No specific figures were given, but the company claims this diesel with be 25-30% more efficient than an equivalent gasoline-powered unit. More »

Honda informs us the company will maintain a clear focus on innovation, environmental responsibility, safety, and building machines that are fun to drive. Along with the hydrogen fuel cell FCX, the company plans to push ahead with an i-dtec turbodiesel. The engine requires no urea system to meet emissions standards thanks to superior catalytic converter design. A European version of Accord in will pack the new diesel in 2008, with Japan and the US models being considered for the near future. Honda President and CEO Takeo Fukui then introduced the Accord Tourer Concept, told us the sedan version is coming to Geneva in 2008, and to have a good time at the show. Asimo was taking a break.
