According to the rumors, the Getz-replacing Hyundai i20 could be coming stateside, complete with an ultra-clean diesel and even a hybrid version. The i20 is getting 1.2- and 1.4-liter gasoline engines, but it looks like the diesel version, dubbed i-blue, is the pick of the range, delivering up to 68 MPG. There could even be a hybrid version in the works, although the gas/electric version still appears to be in development. All of a sudden, that Daewoo Cruze isn’t looking so competitive after all. We're finally seeing some official shots of the Hyundai i20, the Euro-market grocery getter that will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show next month. The i20 is expected to arrive with 1.2-liter and 1.4-liter gasoline engine options as well as a 1.4-liter common-rail diesel for the petrolphobic. In the i20 i-blue Concept, the diesel has been tweaked for maximum emissions and economy: a CO2 output of just 99g/km and 68 MPG estimated. Finally, Hyundai plans to introduce a repackaged Santa Fe Veracruz as the ix55, along with a Santa Fe Hybrid boasting an estimated 44 MPG. Full press release below the jump. More »

Hyundai is readying a new subcompact to take on the Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit, replacing the Getz. Expected to drop at Paris Motor Show in October, the new Korean should go on sale early next year. Expect the 2010 Hyundai i20 to incrementally improve on the Getz's quality, packaging and drive, contributing to the gradual progression of the Korean company as it slowly becomes the next Toyota.
