A "car-sized" boulder came careening down a mountain early today in France, smashing a passenger train off its rails and pushing it downhill. Two people were reportedly killed, and nine more were injured, according to The Telegraph. This is the kind of nightmare that everyone fears, but prays doesn't happen.
The train was traveling from the coastal city of Nice to the alpine town of Digne-les-Bains amidst heavy snow when the rock became dislodged. The right side of the first car has been visibly crushed, but thankfully only 34 passengers were aboard the two car train, limiting the devastation.
The route regularly sees heavy snowfall and tumbling rocks, according to the report, but never before with such tragic results.
We'll update you if we get more information.
