This year marks the 50th anniversary of Lamborghini, easily one of the most outrageous and glorious carmakers to ever exist. In order to properly celebrate it, 60 Minutes decided it was time to profile the legendary Italian automaker again.
Last night's episode might not have had the panache and flair of the first segment that 60 Minutes did on Lamborghini in the late 1980s, but it was a thoughtful update on the company that has come back from the brink of bankruptcy about 917 times since it was formed.
It's pretty amazing to see just how far the Lambo factory has come in the last 25 years, as well as where the cars and company are now. It's gone from cars built by a tractor builder angry at Enzo Ferrari to some of the most ridiculous and wonderful cars ever crafted out of raw metal. They're Italy on four wheels.
Scott Pelley, who did the story for 60 Minutes, does mention a few times that the trunk space of the Aventador isn't adequate. I think we've proven him wrong.
Happy birthday Lambo, here's to 50 more.
