2010 GMC Sierra HD Spied Sporting A Minor Refresh

The guys at Pickuptrucks.com have snagged some shots of a 2010 GMC Sierra HD pickup in dually chassis-cab configuration. The most obvious change is in the grille area, where a honeycomb three-bar motif dominates, but overall the refresh is pretty minor. Rumors of a more-powerful Duramax available under the hood, possibly with urea injection for NOx emissions reduction, continue, helping Sierras so-equipped to meet the tough Tier 2 Bin 5 emissions regulations. Scion Chooses Lackluster HD Radio For Its Audio-Centric Customers

Toyota has recently announced a partnership with iBiquity, which will put HD Radio systems in a variety of Scion vehicles. What makes this partnership even funnier is the PR-speak Toyota used to announce the partnership.

"Since Scion customers are in tune with audio technology, it makes sense that we enhance our already outstanding audio offerings for them," said Jason Adang, Accessory Audio and Electronics Planning Manager, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. "Digital HD Radio technology is ideal for our youthful, tech-savvy customers who will enjoy the wide range of content available on HD Radio channels."

Toyota hasn't gotten that hint that HD Radio is floundering, big time. This whole marketing thing is pretty new to Scion, as well. More »

Because their customers really want to listen to Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me in ~~High Definition~~ Hybrid Digital, Volvo is going to make HD standard and almost every model. And if you think we're joking about that, we'd note they made the announcement in Boston. The list includes S40 T5, V50 T5, C30, C70, S80, V70, SC70 and XC90 models, which is a nice way of saying every model except the standard-issue S40 and V50. HD offers an interesting alternative to satellite radio, with many stations offering supplemental programming on the HD2 multicast channels. Press release below the jump: More »

BMW to Offer HD Radio as a Factory Option

The quiet war between satellite radio and HD radio — which allows providers to offer digital radio signals and (information channels) along the same airwaves as analog AM/FM radio — appears to be amping up. With most of the battles being won of late by the big satellite providers, Sirius and XM, HD-radio software provider and upstart, iBiquity (owned by CBS and Gannett — aha! Old Media, eh?) scored a major franchise play, when BMW announced recently it would offer HD radio ad a factory option in its 2006 7-Series models. It's the first time an automaker will offer digital radio in a car, though likely not the last, as equipment prices fall and more traditional analog radio stations move to digital. More »
