We went to the Porsche event with high hopes of amazing unveils for the never before seen Porsche Boxster RS60 Spyder, Porsche RS Spyder, Porsche Cayenne GTS and Porsche 911 GT2. Imagine our disappointment when we got there and realized we've seen them all before, unlike the Porsche press release had implied. About the most exciting part of the whole event was the Boxster ice sculpture, with Porschemisu. They did manage to redeem themselves by encouraging us to "Have a little taste of Porsche" with the little birthday cakes - it's Porsches 50th anniversary this year. We didn't taste the cakes, because we don't know what Porsche tastes like, though we assume concentrated Bruce tastes like oil, aluminum, und schteel. More »

Porsche just dropped a presser on us which has us scratching our heads. Any time we read words like "Porsche" and "First" and "Shown" in a press release, we expect the things contained therein to be, you know, Porsches being shown for the first time. In this case, that's maybe only partially true. In breathless verbiage, we're told all about the amazing new Porsche Cayenne GTS, Porsche 911 GT2, Porsche Boxster RS60 Spyder and the racing Porsche RS Spyder. Problem is we've already seen the Porsche Cayenne GTS and the Porsche 911 GT2 in the flesh, the Porsche Boxster RS60 Spyder has been both on the web and boring for nigh on three and a half months. And it would be a shock if the Porsche RS Spyder which has already won more races than we care to count wasn't pretty well known. 1546 HP Twin Turbo Dodge Viper GTS Dyno Run

This has to be the loudest UPS truck we've ever heard. It's really important to notice during this dyno run how the hand held camera is shaking during one of the pulls. So it may not be quite as insane as the 2,200 hp quad turbocharged V8 we saw on Friday, but it's definitely more streetable, and has up to 100% more Dodge Viper GTS. This sucker is obviously set up for drag racing though following the advice of the video and going to UndergroundRacing.com gets us no additional info on the car. We did dig up pictures of the beast though, and its pretty sick. This almost makes us sad that the Viper is as good as dead these days. How much you want to bet these guys have already rented an oversea container to Poland? More »

We saw a rear-drive Corolla GT-S a few months ago, but we haven't yet seen one of the front-drivers. Things involving the Corolla name in North America got a little confused in the mid-80s, what with the different platforms available at the same time and then the Corolla-clone Nova (and Toyota-branded Corollas as well) being built in California. The AE86 gets all the attention from the donuts-in-mall-parking-lot kids these days, which may be why even rarer GT-S FX16s like this one survive as reasonably original daily drivers. More »

An intrepid Jalopnik photographer/impersonator gathered up his best Ferdie Piëch and snuck behind the scenes at the Porsche booth to catch the new Cayenne GTS unawares and uncloaked. The mid-level porker SUV will be revealed officially later today, slotting between the Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo as part of Porsche's ever-widening niche-fulfillment strategy (see what I did there?). The newest addition to the Porsche SUV lineup, the Porsche Cayenne GTS, is going to set you back $69,300 when it goes on sale next month, putting it closer to the $57,900 Cayenne S than the $93,700 for the Cayenne Turbo. Unfortunately, the performance is also closer to the Cayenne S with a 405 horsepower version of the 4.8-liter DFI engine, as opposed to the 500 horsepower version in the Turbo. If you've got eight months and sixty British grand to kill, you can get your mitts on the latest homespun sports car to emanate from the Isle of hoonage. It's the Farbio GTS and its supercharged sibling. Appearing to split the difference between a modern Lotus Europa and something from our friends at Lee Noble's establishment, the Farbio GTS is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 producing 262 hp naturally aspirated and 384 hp for the Rotrex Supercharged version. The difference in zero to 60 time is palpable: 4.8 seconds vs 3.9 seconds. The GTS weighs but 2,350 pounds — with the compressor adding an extra 40 pounds. Will it be another Cinderella story from the land that cuisine forgot? Or will it enter the dustbin of good ideas after a lengthy bankruptcy procedure? Watch this space. US info regarding Porsche's new Cayenne variant hit earlier today. If you'll recall, the Cayenne GTS, debuting at the Frankfurt auto show next week, gets a more powerful 4.8-liter V8 and the 911's Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system. It'll cost nearly seventy large, but that's around $23,000 less than a Cayenne Turbo. The power's less, but the PASM-gasm might be worth the $11,000 premium over a Cayenne S. Our Dutch boyz at Autoblog.nl send up an Automobilwoche report that Porsche is planning to reveal a special new Cayenne for the Frankfurt show next week. It'll be dubbed GTS, a designation last seen on the mid-1990s Porsche 928. The Cayenne GTS, the report says, won't overshadow the Turbo S. Rather, it builds on the Cayenne S, adding a body kit, 21" wheels, special red paint and other accouterments. We love it when old Jezza starts talking cock-o-meter. We believe he first used the analogy in his (404 page missing) review of the Saab 9-3 Sport Wagon. The metaphor goes as such: Based on the car you are driving, your threads and your haircut, the cock-o-meter tells you how much of a cock you look like. All BMW drivers score a 5 (highest score). Saab drivers on the other hand? We forget exactly, but it was pretty low. Here's how JC explains it this time:

Just so you guys won't think Arash Farboud's pharma phortune is going to waste, Coolbrit offers an update on the launch of Farboud's homegrown supercar company. Yes, a US dealer network is planned to distribute the 50 or so Cosworth-Ford powered, wind-tunnel-tested GTS models to be allocated stateside in its first year. (The company says it's working up prototypes to be sacrificed at the DOT's safety altar.) UK sales are planned to commence in Spring '07, with US shipments coming sometime after. Can't wait? Arash Farboud, the guy whose family fortune in pharma let him spite Ferrari for not letting him buy an Enzo, will show off his 550 hp supercar concept at the British motor show next month. The carbon-fiber-bodied AF10 has shed the Audi-sourced powerplant of an early prototype, in favor of the Corvette Z06's 7.0-liter LS7 V8. It'll be linked to a six-speed tranny from Graziano. Autocar reports it'll come in under four seconds in the zero-to-60 run with a top speed of 200 mph. More »

Our globetrotting, supercar-flogging buddy from Blighty, Nick Hall, tells the story of Arash Farboud's bid to build a better Ferrari. After his attempt to acquire an Enzo was met with a prancing, equinine "SOL, champ," Farboud picked up a more accessable Porsche Carrera GT and used a portion of his family's pharma phortune to launch an improbable car-building project. The result was the Farboud GTS, an Audi-powered prototype that's as rough hewn as it is ready for tail-kicking action. The production product will likely be a different machine — Cosworth Ford powered, for example — but Farboud's already got plans to bring his creation to the US.
