The moment the Ford Taurus SHOwagon listed on eBay was posted here the bidding for the rare item suddenly jumped up. We thought this was because we're awesome and moved tons of traffic in the power-wagon's direction. No. In fact, the real culprit was our very own Commenter Admin / Cotomer Sevis Rep Pete Gaines. Not only did he drive the price up past its low reserve, he was able to purchase the car for the steal-of-a-deal price of just $3,000. His plans for the sweet new ride?

As if we're not already overly inclined towards the first or second generation Ford Taurus SHO, an audio company made a rare SHO Wagon and that vehicle is now for sale on eBay. Rather than dropping the SHO 3.0-liter Yamaha V6 and manual transmission into a donor wagon body, this is an original SHO with the wagon body dropped onto it. Stacked with audio equipment and for sale with bids in the low $2,000-range, this could be a steal for someone in the Midwest area. Of course, it needs new paint, has hail damage and was probably driven like a company car. But SHO Wagon! Seller description below.

The boys over at the blue oval are beating their chests after a successful summer of blockbuster product placements. But, we can’t help but detect a bit of desperation in their release. After all, if the product placements, which they undoubtedly paid big bucks for, had been successful, would they really have felt the need to remind us of them? Ford starts by explaining the basic premise of product placement, “Think of what the 1982 film, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, did for Reese’s pieces.” But the X-Files wasn’t E.T. and the vehicles we remember from The Dark Knight were either exotic and Italian or capable of crashing through walls. According to an SHO Club member who posts at V8SHO.com, Ford has been contacting groups of past Taurus SHO owners to talk about the 2010 Ford Taurus and the possibility of an SHO performance version. Though no drawings, facts, figures or anything else concrete was shown, we can probably draw some inferences from the fact that they specifically asked SHO owners about their vehicles. Interestingly, they had a Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Chevy Impala on hand, all with the identifying marks taped over, and asked the SHO enthusiasts what they liked about the vehicles. The spy photo of the 2010 Ford Taurus which were so fleetingly displayed today (and which will live on in RSS readers everywhere) got the old gears turning back to memories of 1996. Ford made huge waves at the Detroit Auto Show that year with the Synergy 2010, a peek at the future of automobiles. It was "equipped" with a 1.0-liter diesel engine, advanced communication systems, super lightweight materials and state-of-the-art aerodynamics. The car was a design concept exploring ways to carry four passengers safely while returning an astonishing 80 MPG in the year 2010. More »

We've been doing some traveling over the past week — running from one shining sea to the other. Rather than deal with the normal boring fare we're used to sampling via the wonders of bittorrent, we've been sampling iTunes newest movie rental feature. Specifically, we snagged a copy of RoboCop for a quick 24-hour rental. There's nothing like re-watching that Detroit blood-bath to get us thinking about our love of the SHO Taurus. We could snag ourselves a 1988 Ford Taurus from Robocop 3, but we'd prefer something like the SHO with a bit more "go." Unfortunately Ford ain't obliging that particular desire at the moment. But, it did get us wondering what it'd be like to have a new 2008 Ford Taurus set up OCP-style for running the streets of Old Detroit. It was almost a year ago today that we stood in a meeting room at McCormick Place in Chicago and listened to Mark Fields go on and on about how big of a deal renaming the Ford Five Hundred the Ford Taurus was going to be. And then they sold 20% less in 2007 than they did in 2006. But they're ready to admit they made a mistake. And what's the carefully orchestrated way that they share this information? In a big meeting CEO Alan Mullaly and product chief Derrick Kuzak compared the Five Hundred (which they're still going to be trying to sell for a while) to Homer Simpson and showed a slide of Homer Simpson over the the current generation Taurus.
