The first thought that comes to mind when taking a step back to look at the Geiger F650 is that this mechanical monstrosity is gonna be mighty thirsty for fuel. While it may not be powered by mere petrol, keep in mind that in most places diesel fuel actually costs more nowadays. Sure, you get over 737 lb-ft of torque from the 6.7-liter inline-six Cummins, but you really do need it to move this beast of burly burden. More »

While the automakers may be disappointing us with vanilla reveals, we have to hand it to the crew at the Alton Truck Company for taking the kind of effort a certain segment of the automotive aftermarket world puts into Civics and applying it to this Ford F-650-based SUV. Weighing in at a paltry 25,999 pounds, this extremest of SUV's features a Caterpillar 7.2L C7 ACERT engine with 230 horsepower and 660 lb.-ft. of torque. For the low low price of $200,000 you get hardwood floors, custom captain's chairs, four wireless computer stations, a 42" plasma TV and a rear view camera so you don't accidentally run over a Yukon XL. It's nicer and larger than our apartment, though slightly tackier. It's the perfect weekend cruiser for an affluent 8th-grader with a driver's license and a few extra bucks lying around.

I just asked a FoMoCo-PR-Bro how a scrappy writer like me could get into a truck like the one pictured above. His response? "A ladder." I've been sparring deep into the comment section of Mr. Mehta's screed (it was a screed, right?) concerning our country's truck. Readers appear upset that Sajeev refused to simply call the new Chevy apple pie and be done with it. Tempers have flared and teh internets tough guys are out in force. As I have stated many times, unless you are hauling cords of wood or removing trees, here in our country, pickups are much more frequently a lifestyle statement than they are useful, practical and/or responsible. So, as we continue our wholly unsupervised preview of the 2006 SEMA show, we had to show you this behemoth of an F-650 pickup put together by the folks over at "Truck Customs by Chris" for FoMoCo to display this year. Yes, we know we've seen these things from afar, but never this close up, and never with both scissor and gullwing doors. Yes, it's horrifying in its beauty — but much like a train wreck, you just have to stop and stare.
