The Lotus Evora has been loved and hated since its debut at the British Motor Show earlier this year, but it's now the Paris Motor Show and we haven't seen any kind of real shots of the so-called "back seat" of this supposed four-passenger car. Since we did the back-seat duties with the Lamborghini Estoque, we figured it only fair to visit the Evora and take a look at it for ourselves. In person, the Evora is a gorgeous car — its taut and swoopy skin really does give the impression of speed even standing still. Those back seats, however, give the impression of a perfect place for a family with dwarf amputee children. More »

The Lotus Evora 2+2 may have already been revealed in all its heaviness, but we've only seen it in a generic silver paint. These new shots show the Lotus blooming in a vivid blue hue while testing on the Nürburgring. We're pretty sure this is just the standard 276 HP, 2967-lb model doing some final testing, but who knows, maybe Lotus is planning a model that's actually in keeping with the brand's traditional virtues of lightweight sports cars. Matchbox has been working closely with Lotus for about nine months creating this 1/64 scale version of the new Lotus Evora. What you see here is obviously a prototype though, as the actual toy won't go on sale until later this year. We know the full-scale Lotus 2+2 isn't exactly following in Colin Chapman's philosophy of "adding lightness," but we'll have to see how well Matchbox has replicated that particular trait. When the Lotus Evora debuted yesterday, we were surprised nobody made mention of the weight — it didn't show up during the live press conference, in any of the specs on the web, or in the initial press release. The real press release on the Evora has finally emerged and, drum roll, the figure is 1,350 kg, or 2,976 lbs. Shocking. We were hoping for 2,200 lbs, maybe 2,700 lbs being realistic, but nearly a ton and a half has us shocked. Not only that, but a lot more options have us scratching our heads. Moments after unveiling the Lotus Evora, Lotus Group CEO Mike Kimberley announced the brand would continue its expansion with two more new platforms. This means Lotus will be shifting to a three-platform model, with the Elise and Europa on the smallest chassis, the Evora occupying the second platform and a new, high-performance mid-engined supercar on a third, expected to debut in 2010. Sure, we already knew what the new 2+2 from Lotus looked like — but we didn't know the name — until now. It's called the Lotus Evora. Yes, with the stroke of the "E" key, Lotus has added yet another E-word to the lexicon of Lotus history. The Evora is equipped with a 276 HP Toyota V6 making 252 lb-ft of torque and a six-speed gearbox, good for sub-5 second 0-60 runs. Of course, in the press conference, in proper British style, the only remarks on speed were, "We won't give you the speeds at the moment, because it wouldn't be appropriate, not with so many police around."
