Egad! Ok, that's the last time we use that joke in a post about German engineering and design firm EDAG, and only because it was a request. But the Mercedes GL-based LUV the company's devised is no laughing matter. It takes itself very seriously, what with Brabus-tuned motor and more teak than in a thousand Scandinavian-designed bookshelves owned by bachelors named D

rk. The teak is a reference to expensive yachts, which informed the coachbuilt truck's design theme. A Honda Ridgeline appears to have been involved in some capacity as well. – Mike Spinelli More »

German engineering and design firm EDAG says it's come up with a modular approach to building niche vehicle derivatives. That means we may be seeing more coachbuilding products from the boys and girls of Fulda. To showcase what it can do, the company's worked up a show car it's calling LUV, a luxury-tweaked Honda Ridgeline with more Escalade action than BET's parking garage. The theme is maritime, and appointments include such yacht-y measures as teak slats for the cargo bed and hood. German tuning shop Brabus left its mark on both the 462-hp, 6.1-liter Mercedes V8 and the interior, custom-stitched by the company's upholsterers. Also inside are a set of headrest-mounted UltraMobile PCs with keyboards integrated into airline-style folding tables. The LUV will show up at the EGAD stand in Geneva next week, with an even more refined version coming to Frankfurt. No orders please, it's just a concept. (Expansive press release after the jump, if you dare.) – Mike Spinelli More »

We're plumb tuckered with Egad/Edag wordplay, so this one comes to you from our serious place. German design and engineering house Edag plans to show off a new concept truck at the Geneva show, dubbed LUV. But this concept is no Isuzu-built compact Chevrolet pickup from the 1970s; it's a maritime-themed hauler with a teak-covered loading platform. Maritime? According to the company, LUV means "luff" in German. Right, we had to look it up too — it's the act of sailing a ship nearer the wind, so that the sail flaps. Regardless, the company says it's considering custom shop partners to build the LUV as a limited series model. This little tiny thing we call the Detroit Auto Show has gotten bigger and bigger over the years. Since that's the case, upstarts and elbow throwers the world over are having to work hard and take less than premo space to get in. Check out Edag, they've just totally jumped the gun here out in the exposed lobby. Their modded Pontiac Solstice shooting brake has been sitting out for all to see for hours and its not even formal press time yet. I must say, it looks nice in Detroit Police Department livery. – Ben Wojdyla <a href="http://jalopnik.com/226692/egad-edag-brings-the-heat-for-auto-show" title="Click here to read more about Egad!... Egad! EDAG, an automotive engineering and design firm based in Fulda, Germany is making its World premiere at the Detroit Motor Show 2006 with an innovative Pontiac Solstice hardtop concept reminiscent of the yet-unproduced Chevrolet Nomad concept of 2004. The English would call such a wagon-like sports car a "shooting brake" for its ability to carry a hound and shotgun, but the Edag concept is specifically for keeping up appearances — there's no more space available than a stock Solstice offers. Still, as a hardtop, one can presumably put a cargo box on top (though the ASPCA may give you a bit of a go). The company is also showing a yet-unseen SUV concept at the show.
