As a child of the 80s and former member of the Knight Rider faithful (I happily toted the Rider lunchbox until third grade) it was nearly impossible to stifle my internal yelp of anticipation when first presented with the keys to the new KITT for an exclusive first drive. It's irrational, because I knew the car sitting in front of me wasn't the F-body KITT of my childhood dreams, but when those sweeping lights fired up in front for the first time, it was enough to make me giddy as a school boy. Especially because although it can't talk (at least not without help from the installed Mio GPS unit), this car's the real deal — a fire-breathing, bad guy-chasing weapon of fictional justice. That's because beneath the toys and cosmetic upgrades, this isn't the auto-tranny GT used for the made-for-TV movie, it's a 540 HP Shelby GT500KR. More »

As part of the run-up PR-fest for Redline, a schlock-fest of a movie, actor Eddie Griffin "lost control" ( can someone say "publicity stunt?" ) of a $1.5 million Ferrari Enzo and crashed it in spectacularly excruciating fashion. The car suffered major front end damage and most considered it totaled due to the delicate carbon fiber bodywork. Not Texan luxury car repair and salesman Matt Groner. No, Groner figured if he could get his hands on the Enzo, it had a fighting chance. As you can see from the picture gallery below, he was right. Jeez, who knew when we launched the "Save The Enzos" campaign, someone would actually save one? Police car chases are as much a part of American cinema as the sappy love story and the life-like animated robot movie. With so many directors having tackled the police chase it has become a bountiful field from which to pluck perfectly formed flowers of destruction and tire smoke. As we continue our Jalopnik Automotive Amerigasm this week with the second part of our review of the 2008 Dodge Charger Police Edition, we figured we should see what the celluloid forefathers of this blacked out beast have been able to do on film. Except, the "top ten car chases" thing's been done so many times it's not funny. A week after we showed you our exclusive first look at the cars of Death Race, the new movie starring Jason Statham to be released by Universal later this summer, we've now got the first trailer for Death Race. What can we say? Well, it's intense and in it we learn the first rule of the Death Race — you never drive backwards. Unless you're Statham and you're driving a Mustang — and I'd have to say the 'stang (called Frankenstein's Monster) looks seriously cool. Really, this should have been what the made the new KR look like. It makes every other Mustang variant look like a girlie car. Update: We managed to snag some clearer pictures and video of the Bumblebee version of the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS. Caught hot on the set of Transformers 2, the next iteration of Bumblebee seems to have been augmented with a very snazzy, very different 2010 Chevy Camaro SS treatment than we've seen in the past. Could this be the first glimpse we get of the as-yet unseen version for the bow tie brand? We like to think yes, or it's just a piece of magic. As far as Bumblebee's new choice of wheels, we're a little disappointed, we always imagined giant, intergalactic transforming robots had better taste than that. More »

ABC has reportedly ordered up a new hour-long drama pilot, based upon the auto industry and set in our very own Motor City. The Prince of Motor City is said to contain "Hamlet overtones" and is set to begin filming at the end of June, airing this winter as a mid-season replacement. Second Car Accident Befalls Bond Film Stuntmen

It's not easy being a stuntman on the set of the new James Bond movie, "Quantum of Solace." If you'll remember, earlier this week we told you about that stunt driver taking Bond's Aston Martin DBS into the drink (and the subsequent video aftermath) in what's being described as a highly dangerous "delivery-related" stunt. Now they've seen another car accident. Although this time it wasn't the DBS, it was double trouble as two of the men all about stunts were involved. Reportedly,

"the accident happened when the car used by two stuntmen rammed into a filming lorry and then into a wall on set near the picturesque Lake Garda in northern Italy..."

James Bond's Aston Martin DBS Swan Dives Into Italian Lake

It seems the lusty power of the Aston Martin DBS, a rain-soaked night and an over-zealous stunt driver conspired to result in James Bond's car taking a swim in Lake Garda in Italy. According to the Daily Telegraph, a stunt driver for the latest film Quantum of Solace, lost control while bombing along some narrow roads and managed to fly off the road. While the car was a quantum of sogginess, the driver managed to escape a similarly water-soaked fate, but probably decidedly less marketable as a stunt driver. We're thinking it's excusable to lose a car when you're rehearsing or performing a stunt in front of the camera and crew. It's probably less acceptable when you're merely attempting to deliver the car to the set. Even less acceptable is that it's the only car available for filming. More »

Jay Leno On Top Gear America: I Hope We Don't Ruin It

It looks like Jay Leno has some apprehensions about Top Gear America, and we're guessing he hasn't even seen the poorest imitation yet. In his column for The Sunday Times, he lists the reasons why he thinks the program is doomed (and he doesn't even mention Adam Corolla as host). Most importantly, he thinks the show is going to lose the edge it has because it'll bow to sponsors who don't like having their cars criticized. How does the age-old adage go? Mangled or not, it's still a yellow p***y magnet? The Clearwater Police Department has released hundreds of pictures of the ~~p***y magnet~~ yellow 1998 Toyota Supra. The original report says that Nick "Hogan" Bollea originally struck a curb, spun 180 degrees and slammed into a palm tree. These pictures look more like the Hulkster got a hold of the car at Wrestlemania 1998 and tore it to shreds.

According to him anyway. Adam Carolla, on his show on KLSX today, announced he'll be one of the hosts of Top Gear USA. We've got no confirmation from anyone at NBC and frankly, we don't even know who to call to confirm it. But we've got to believe Adam if he's saying it. We mean, he was on the "Man Show" — of course he's a reliable source. Guess that means there's only two slots left. Why do we feel like we're looking for a "golden ticket" in a sea of Wonka bars here? Wait a second, is that the Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24 behind Adam in the picture above? We feel like we've seen it somewhere — like perhaps last season on Top Gear UK. Jeez, the guy's already starting to get acquainted with the toys used in the show from across the pond. Cadzilla, A DeLorean And ZZ Top: A Boyd Coddington Tribute

For those still continuing to cope with Boyd Coddington's death, here's a video that should put a smile on your face and maybe dry up a few of those tears. One of Coddington's most beloved custom cars was the Cadzilla, which was created for ZZ Top singer Billy Gibbons (sometimes referred to as CadZZilla). Truly a unique ride, the custom cost around $900,000 to build. This might explain why ZZ Top put Cadzilla in so many videos. Our favorite has to be the video "Doubleback" for the Back To The Future Part III soundtrack, which features both a DeLorean and Cadzilla. As always, the day is saved by three leggy young women in a custom hot rod. We love America. More »

No Country For Old Men was, hands down, the best film of 2007 and it won. Overall, a year of good movies apparently makes for a year of dull Oscars. To make matters more boring, they all showed up in eco-friendly vehicles. We wish they'd put as much effort into picking out cars as they do into picking out clothing. "What are you driving?" KITT's found new life not as an F-body, but as a Ford Mustang GT500KR. We were pretty fascinated by the "Bee-Otch" air freshener back when we saw it hanging from Bumblebee's rear-view mirror in Transformers a few months back. We were so enthralled and amused we even tried to figure out how we too could own our very own li'l "Bee-Otch" air freshener. Well, it looks like there's now a bit of a legal tussle over the adorable little hang tag. Here's the story from the NY Post:
