Before calling his booth babes forth to pull the silk sheet from the CS Concept - a car that was first unveiled in Shanghai almost a year ago - the BMW Exec said that the reason he liked the New York Auto Show was that it give people a chance to see stuff they've already seen, again. We hope you agree with him, because here's he CS concept, again. Allegedly, the CS will form the basis for the design of future luxury models. There's something fishy going on at BMW this morning. We're pretty sure what you see here is just the BMW CS Concept that was shown in Shanghai last year, but some part of us is wishing it's the new luxury flagship that's allegedly being developed along the concept's lines, or maybe even the 2010 5-series. Here at the Tokyo auto show, in between sips from metal cans of coffee bought at vending machines, we heard BMW bosses confirm a new model based on the platform introduced with the CS concept. That's the sport four-door prototype shown earlier this year in Shanghai. No details yet, though insiders say it could show up as early as Frankfurt 2009, leading with its kidney grille. More »

If you thought BMW's CS Concept was a hottie, we've got good news. If you thought it was ungainly and overstylized, just keep moving — nothing to see here. Word from Automotive News today is that BMW — right in line with the rumor mill — will build a top-end four seater based on the CS, which BMW introduced at the Shanghai auto show last month. The range topper would face off with other future low-roofline sedans, like the Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide, and as well with the current Mercedes CLS. The best AS could get from BMW is a "probably" from BMW of North America boss Tom Purves, based on the company's past record of building cars introduced as concepts, like the Z4 Coupe ad 2003 BMW xActivity. The market, Purves says, is above the 7 series but below the Rolls-Royce models, a ceiling set to lower when Rolls introduces a new entry sedan in the coming years. Apparently the sexed-up sedan will become a predominate construct in the coming years. Now all we need is a good segment identifier, since "four-door coupe" is cumbersome. Sexadan? GT limo? So don't be fooled by the fact that it's claiming "world premiere." Still, at least this one features some decent production value and down-tempo trance.
