The last thing any automaker could want leading up to the launch of an exciting new model is images of the car wrecked against a concrete post. Unfortunately for Hyundai, this 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe was caught making its first entry into the destruction derby of automotive life in Korea. According to a translated version of the Korean website Luckyworld, the car was wearing a temporary plate when it smashed into the concrete barrier around a street light, leaving both passenger and driver in critical condition. Since we don't really know the circumstances of the crash, we're not willing to rule out this being not a temp plate, but a manufacturers plate, meaning the car could have been a non-salable tester. Which is why we're willing to overlook for the moment a lack of airbag deployment. More »

The fortified and honest to goodness "Art Of Speed" race car made from the guts of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe is stripped of all the superfluous interior amenities and upgraded with an eight point safety cage, racing seat, quick release steering wheel and all the other requisite goodies of a race car. Under the hood the 2.0 liter turbo four cylinder gets upgraded with Turbonetics goodies breathing through a new intake. Jalopnik friend Jon snapped this yellow Hyundai Genesis coupe wearing M plates on I-75 in Metro Detroit yesterday. The angle of the photo shows the dramatic side creases found on the 2-door Korean Mustang-mauler, and from the rear three-quarter the car actually looks more like a Tiburon than its designers would likely care to admit. Kudos for a surprisingly good photo using what we'd assume is a camera phone while driving; we're hoping this wasn't the cause of that accident at Big Beaver yesterday afternoon. More »

We've given you manufacturer-supplied details about the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe, but now Car Middle East has taken it upon themselves to publish the first drive review of the upcoming Mustang-fighter. Thanks to Car's question-and-answer session with themselves we can tell you that, thanks to the Hyundai-built 3.8-liter V6, and combined with a limited-slip rear, the testers were able to engage in "some top quality rear-wheel slidey fun accompanied by a thoroughly enjoyable sound track from the dual exhausts." Even though no media outlets have yet driven the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, that hasn’t stopped the company from handing them out to every tuner in the western hemisphere. The latest to get their grubby, carbon-stained hands on the Coupe is HKS, known for sticking big turbos in little cars — which is exactly the approach they took with the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. No performance numbers have been revealed yet, but expect HKS to unveil a range of Genesis performance upgrades, along with the boobs of several trashy booth babes at the SEMA show in November. The Detroit News is reporting group vice president and general manager for Toyota of the Americas, Bob Carter, has confirmed the 2010 Toyota Prius will be debuting at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show and will be joined by a uniquely styled and appointed version for Lexus. The Prius was set to move upmarket relative to its former iterations, but with a Lexus version now on the way, Toyota's own marketplace may be getting crowded. But the bigger story is how this news makes things far more interesting for January's Detroit Auto Show. More »
