What you're looking at above is not a computer generated drawing, it is a full scale wireframe representation of a Lamborghini Countach created by installation artist Benedict Radcliffe. The car is the latest in a series of wire cars Radcliffe has completed. It's likely the most ambitious, painstakingly crafted from 10 mm steel tube welded together into that familiar shape we all know and secretly love. Upon close inspection you see fine details in the wheels and the intake gills, even the letters spelling "Pirelli P7" are worked out in tubing. Last week we brought you the story of Ken Imhoff, a Wisconsin man who, after falling in love with the Lamborghini Countach in the classic movie Cannonball Run, followed his dream by building his very own Lamborghini in his basement. The amazing build took place over the course of ten years and was completed and dragged out of the subterranean depths only about a week prior to our story. That very same day Ken contacted us, amazed by the response the post had garnered, to let us know "I am the guy with a Lamborghini in the basement." Seventeen years ago, Ken Imhoff watched Cannonball Run and became so enamored with the Lamborghini Countach in the film, he hand-built his own, in his basement. In what we imagine might be the most Jalopnik build ever undertaken, Ken designed and fabricated his own tig-welded frame, installed a thoroughly massaged 351 cubic inch V8 with a ZF-25 5-speed transmission, hand-formed the aluminum body over a meticulously measured and accurate body form, and finished it all off in a beautiful metallic gray. It took Ken 10 years to complete the project, and the results — as you can see both in the gallery and in the video below the jump — are amazing. Even though only 11% of you chose the If only they'd put Lamborghini bodies on them at the factory poll choice in Friday's DOTS Fiero poll, I feel compelled to share this fine example of a "Lamborghini Countach" that I spotted in the island's East End last week. Sure, the fit and finish isn't quite up to Yugo standards, but at least it's not another boring Camry or Malibu! I'm pretty sure it's based on the Pontiac Fiero chassis, but its smog check records indicate that it's registered as a 2000 model. That's why I'm including a poll, so that all of us have a chance to debate this car's identity.

We're fairly convinced that Jalopnik is actually just a self help group for those suffering withdrawals from lack of hot bedroom poster action. We were all there, which is why we're all here. I actually still have one with a red 308, a white Countach and a black 911 that says "Dreams" at the bottom. I also still have a promo poster from the local Porsche dealer which showed an airborne 911 complete with a plate that reads, "LIEBERMAN" in hot blue dot matrix. I had the above Countach, plus another Countach in white. I had a Porsche 959, an Aston Martin V8 Vantage (though I am pretty sure that was torn from Car & Driver rather than an actual poster), the Benetton F1 team, a Corvette ZR-1, an LM002 (also torn from a magazine), an F40, a Testarosa and at least 3 Shelby Cobras. I also had a 288 GTO poster, though I am sure at the time I thought it was a 308. Quite possibly more. Oddly, I also had the then current gen III Quattroporte, but I was a weird kid. More »

I've been dreading this week for months. I knew that sooner or later I would have run a Lambo for entrance into the Fantasy Garage and how on earth do you pick which one? True, we already ran the LM002 flag up the Fantasy pole, but the Lamborghini's SUV is the Oscar Acosta of the Fantasy Garage, a high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to not be in Jalopnik's Garage. Plus of course, Hunter S Thompson drove one, so piss off. But that still leaves me with the dilemma of which mid-engined Bull to nominate. My heart says the Miura, as few if any cars have ever been as lovely. Yet my brain is demanding the LP640, as it is by far the most capable of the three. However my balls are screaming "Countach!" How do you argue against the Countach, as the thing defies logic? There's the Veyron, the world's fastest production car in a straight line and the Group B Audi quattro S1, one of the world's fastest around a gravel corner. You can't get more sinister than the Daimler Drophead Coupe and Buick GNX, but you can get more überholprestige (that's German for, "I see the car behind me. I must get out of its way.") Lamborghini's LM002, of course, is überholprestige. Once in Newport Beach I saw such a "Rambo Lambo" looming large in my mirrors. I quickly pulled off the road and began praying it wouldn't hurt me. Along with the '77 Trans Am, the '69 Dodge Charger and the 308 GTS, the Lamborghini Countach had captured our pre-pre-pubescent heart. In fact, it was our absolute favorite car in the world. When the F40 arrived a couple of years later, we weren't exactly "Pffft," but it still wasn't a Countach.
