At least that's the message Audi wants you to hear with its new viral marketing effort, a web mini-series called "Meet the Beckers." The mini-series tells the tale of a dysfunctional affluent family. Although we've got to admit that often times the stereotypes portrayed in the advertisement show are dead-on and funny as hell, we're forgetting one stereotype. We were getting pretty sick of Knight Rider commercials where nothing happened. In this commercial, brought to us by the folks at Knight Rider Online, we finally get some action. You got your machine gun fire, your explosions, your hand-to-hand combat and your maiden (the certainly illegitimate child of the Hoff). General Motors will be showing off a line of commercial vehicles at the Chicago Auto Show featuring GM's latest usable green technology. While we won't be seeing a fuel-cell pursuit package Impala, there will be enough E85, B5 biodiesel and hybrids for everyone. Vehicles getting the treatment include the HHR Panel, Express 3500 Cargo Van, Silverado/Silverado HD, Police Impala and Police Tahoe. Dodge is going from "Grab life by the horns" to just simply "Grab life" and now they've got a new ad campaign to sell it. They've done it on the cheap though, snagging images from old commercials, tossed together with images of sporting Americana — Red Wings and Nascar. All of that's re-mixed with an amerigasm of what we'd describe as "freedom rock." I guess our only question after watching the new ad is — when did Dodge become the advertising amalgamation of Ford and Chevy. Or more appropriately, since when did Michael Bay start directing coffee achiever "Bold Moves" commercials for Dodge? All we know is that ain't creamer those kids are adding to their Dodge. More »

Dodge has good news from the big show in Chicago for those wanting to become repo men, or just need fill the convertibles of their enemies with paving stones. The new and tougher than ever before Dodge Ram 4500 and 5500 sport an improved 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel that kicks out 610 ft lbs of torque at a mere 1600 RPM. A choice between a six-speed manual or automatic puts all that twist to the wheels and gives this series best in class first gear acceleration. The largest brake rotors in the class help put on the whoa. Best of all you can tow around that puny consumer Dodge Ram on the back of this commercial tougher brother for 350K before major service is required. One of the most active stories of the day has been that of visitors to GM's "Make Your Own Tahoe Commercial" site creating irreverant works, like those some Jalopnik readers did back when we first posted the link. Would-be parodists have fired at the Tahoe from several directions: environmentalists tweak its size and gas mileage showing, while unaffiliated wiseasses use the demonstrative-asshole or penis-envy angles. The obvious conclusion is that GM's online viral ad campaign has backfired on the company, subverting its messaging and possibly even damaging the Tahoe's brand. But what if it hasn't?
