How hard is it to un-Malaise an engine? I'd imagine it would involve ripping our the emissions gear, new rods and and crank to jack up the compression ratio, and maybe new carbs?

Man, I was hoping for better fuel figures than that. Set on cruise the 335i can average about 29MPG. One would hope that for the extra cash plunked down for a diesel you would get significantly better fuel economy. I was hoping for something in the region of 40mpg and I'd switch from a 335i coupe to a 335d coupe in a heartbeat. As long as you could get stick that is.

I know exactly what you mean and I do it whenever I have the chance to drive my mother's Prius. It sound insane but it can be fun. Driving around right on the speed limit with the AC off and the windows up in the middle of summer is a bit of a different kind of fun but it's fun nonetheless
