Buji commented on What's Your Favorite Van Of All Time?

Still love my Ford 350 Sportsmobile. King Size bed, shower and toilet, two fridges, microwave, in motion satellite tv, 1k watt 7.1 surround sound with a 24" monitor. Second bed up top for guests, go anywhere 4x4, super nice air-ride suspension, heated seats and plenty of room for two plus pets...

I'm hoping to take the month of June off from work to get some more miles on it...

Buji commented on When Will Swamp Thing Come Back? Most absolute favorite character of all time (for me) as it was the first title I picked up around 1982. I was 8 at the time and I remember being hypnotized by the cover and just demanding that my mom get it for me in the convenience store. (it was the one where swampy battles the man who'd been turned to crystal...)

It's what got me reading comics. the Alan Moore/Steve Bissette/John Totleben run will forever be, for me, the pinnacle of the art for which every single comic I read is compared to in one way or another. (I usually get around 60 titles a month, so I'm not a casual reader, I guess...)

I have every single issue, from the Wrightson/Wein special of House of Secrets, to the latest series where they tried to kick it off again.

I would love to walk down that path again, but they simply made the character too powerful. If they want to go there, then they need to go back to the "american gothic" run and start with a new swampy, who doesn't know any of his potential yet, and is as confused as the classic protagonist was during the best runs.

I could go on and on... but I think I'll go pick some of my favorite issues out and read them by headlamp in bed :D

I'm a huge fan of the series and I found this latest version to be completely CHEAP with the AI and difficulty on the last few missions. Buji commented on Direct TV Offering NASA HDTV in International Space Station, Service Calls To Be a Real Mother Shame on Forbes (and others) for not even thinking about the science and why this is impossible, and just being mouthpieces for DirecTV's PR.

Not only will there be the (previously) mentioned problem that the DirectTV satellites are geo-stationary, but I also understand that a significant amount of DirecTV's programming is delivered via spotbeam technology, which has to be pointed in the general direction of the customers that are expecting to receive it. Also, there's no land-lines in space, and anyone who's ever had the misery of talking to a Direct (or Dish for that matter) knows that they throw a fit if the receiver's not plugged into a phone line.

Don't even get me started on the Distant Network waiver that would be necessary to provide local programming.

Buji commented on Dodge D-50 Smokes the Baloneys My first car was a black d-50 with the same red-orange-yellow stripes on the side. It had yellow mag wheels and a two-tone yellow and black leather interior. Same muther effing kickass slant 4 and that little truck would go just about anywhere. I lusted after the 4x4 models, but my liddle puddle jumper never really let me down.

It was called the Bumblebee, and was semi-famous in my small Kansas town.

Later, in a speed run back from the Oklahoma City airport, the timing chain snapped at about 110mph and that was about all she wrote for that motor. I sure wish I knew then what I know now about cars because I would do anything to have that truck back.

Buji commented on Your Worst Beat? I have a great beat.
It's 2001 and I'm in my lightly (at the time) modified 2000 vette, at a stoplight on the way home from a strip club with a friend in the passenger seat. It's late and dark in the middle of nowhere.
An all wheel drive early 90s eagle talon (with the turbo) pulls up next to us and revs a bit, so I wait for the light. In the back of my mind, I'm remembering some of those talons out there have mad boost, and 4wd for the takeoff to boot. It's pretty dark and I don't want to lean over my buddy in the seat to get a good look at the car so I don't have a good feel on the condition of it.

Green.

I get a great launch, and just about crap myself when I hear his car just EXPLODE next to me. I'm pretty sure he dropped the clutch at 5000 rpm one too many times and just detonated his clutch.

I back off and go down the street about a mile where I can make a u-turn to go check on the guy. As we're coming back he and his buddy are pushing the car to the side of the road. I hollered out to see if they needed help but they just flipped us off so we went out merry way.

I got a little star struck and went out in the game and bought a Lotus Exige, then threw on a custom paint job with his name on it and everything, and 'gifted' it to him over XBL. Wonder if he'll drive it when he's leaving me in the dust...
