<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on VW 1-Liter Car To Launch In 2010?]]> Ok, that's cool, I'd consider one. Now, I need the answer to the deal-breaker question: What's the price?

]]>
<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on Transformers 2 Pictures Show *GASP* A Robot!]]> Ya, I spotted that one right away. That is NOT and engine with a "high-rise, double pumper carburetor." Even an old guy like me knows that. So I figured it was a sort of test but the makers of the film: If you can accept this, you will love this film. An exercise in turning up the "suspension of disbelief meter." And, I did.

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on StarChase GPS Tracker Eliminates OJ-Like Chases]]> It will be a real laugh-riot the first time the perp takes a quick turn just as the cops fire this thing and some poor guy standing on the corner winds up with a GPS unit stuck in his groin. Ouch.

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on Seven Reasons The Segway Still Sucks]]> Actually, ever since the Segway came out, I have been waiting for someone to develop a Smokey Stover-like two wheeled car... Smokey Stover... No, not tandem wheels. Am I showing my age? Google it.

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on Environmental Impact of Prius, Hummer Considered By Slate]]> I've learned my lesson. I'm stayin' out of this one. Can't we argue about RWD vs FWD?

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on The Prince Of Darkness Claims Another Victim]]> @tentacles: Wait just a minute... Is that a Z-car??

]]>
<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on The Prince Of Darkness Claims Another Victim]]> @tentacles: Fearsome! Still, I was refering to ME doing it which is impossible on any number of levels. Great pix, though.

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on The Prince Of Darkness Claims Another Victim]]> I worked at a dealership that sold Jags when the XJS first came out. I recall the price was $20,000 even. Sheesh, the good old days. Anyway, I had the distinct displeasure of driving one. I was shocked at what a dog a V-12 could be. To get the thing to go at all, you had to hold the automatic in first gear to readline before shifting and even then it was no big thrill. I got more fun out of driving a new Datsun 240Z. Still, one of my favorite mechanic hoon fantasies has been to get one of these things and put some sweat and tears into it to make it go like it was supposed to. Hmmm... maybe Hayabusa...

]]>
<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on Hoon Of The Day: 1967 Camaro + Wall = Compact Car]]> Hard to tell what happened. The car did appear to get a steering instability before it went haywire. Might have been a flat, a busted axle, busted steering or a banana peel on the track

"They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains are the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters."

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on IRS Gives Biggest Tax Credit To New Ford Hybrids]]> @eltonito: Thank you. I haven't gotten through all of it but most. I am convinced. Providing me with good references works better than yelling and name calling... although the latter is more fun.

For the record, I am no fan of the Hummer, any of the models, no fan of hybrids but nor am I their enemy and I am certain that the "greenhouse gas" theory of glow-ball warming is just bad science. Now some of you have differernt reasons to get mad at me. I hate FWD cars as well.

]]>
<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on IRS Gives Biggest Tax Credit To New Ford Hybrids]]> @petersterncan: No, I said that the idea of considering the energy usage from manufacturing through recycling the car was a logical way to think about vehicle energy usage. Cool your jets, friend. I am working on studying the references given by eltonito.

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on For Sale: Turbonique Rocket Drag Axle Equipped 1964 Ford Galaxie 500]]> @VW_SollteMichAnstellen: I know. I had a job for a while testing 70,000 lb. thrust rocket engines at Edwards AFB. Smoke and flame! Woo hoo!

@Mike the Dog: Yup. The good old days when the brake pedal had maybe 1/8" travel in it and then it was rock solid... if it was working right... and the brakes were cold. Hmmm... I think in '64 the Galaxy at least offered front discs.

]]>
<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on IRS Gives Biggest Tax Credit To New Ford Hybrids]]> @eltonito: & @petersterncan: Hey, I'm open minded. Could anybody give me some references to check out? Their whole argument seemed resonable to me, the idea of looking at the energy cost of manufacturing through recycling the car at the end of its life. But I'm willing to reconsider on the basis of reasoned critique.

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on Obsessive-Compulsively Documented BMW Sold For $900]]> How come I can never find cars like this for sale?

]]>
<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on For Sale: Turbonique Rocket Drag Axle Equipped 1964 Ford Galaxie 500]]> I am old enough to remember THIS thing as well. The guy took out ads in the hot rodder magazines of the time. Needless to say, all us high school crazies* wanted one for dad's car (*the term "hoon" hadn't been invented yet). As I understand, the engine used a pyrophoric fuel that had a bad tendence to explode. Several people were killed. Occasioanlly, it did work with spectacular results.

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on The De Lorean Car That Never Was: 1964 Pontiac Banshee For Sale]]> BTW - I understand that the Pontiac executroids didn't like the name "Banshee" after they found out that a "banshee" was an omen of death.

When you look at the "dust to dust" energy use of various models, hybrids don't look so good.

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on The De Lorean Car That Never Was: 1964 Pontiac Banshee For Sale]]> I am actually old enough to remember this car. I was in high school at the time. We thought it was the beginning of a new future... we were kind of suckers for that sort of thing. Not a bad looker, even today.

We also had great hopes for that OHC straight six. Turned out to be a piece of junk. Too bad. Too bad. So many things, too bad.

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on Got Three Cylinders And It Uses Them All: 1984 Chevy Sprint]]> I noticed that most of the scenes in the commercial show the car going downhill. There must be some not-so-subliminal message there.

Wasn't this car built by Suzuki? Is it the predecessor of the famed Geo? Inquiring minds want to know.

Damned FWD crap. Oh, I'm sorry, did I say that out loud?

]]>
<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on What's Your Favorite Ugly-Sexy Car?]]> It doesn't work. It is a contradiction in terms. If it is "sexy" then it isn't "ugly." If it is "ugly" it isn't "sexy."

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on Voisin Concept Designed To Compete with Bugatti Veyron, Uses Audi's V12 TDI]]> Swell. Yet more things I can't have. You are definitely in rarified atmosphere when you start talking about "competing with the Veyron." I like the smiley grill.

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on 2009 BMW 7-Series Flowbee Package Both Sucks And Cuts]]> @Miscellanea: I had to go to Wikipedia for that one but, yes, you are right! Hmmm... maybe the Ariel Atom might qualify as the first.

@thatguy01: The Chinese will then sell a knock-off version that won't even come close to passing US crash tests. I was going to add a joke about Chinese population control programs but I won't.

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on Delahaye USA Recreating Famous Cabriolet]]> IMHO, the Delahayes are some of the most beautiful cars ever produced. Reproducing them with modern underpinnings just makes me ache the worst for the fact that I can't even afford a used Geo Metro.

]]>
<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on 2009 BMW 7-Series Flowbee Package Both Sucks And Cuts]]> Too long has the real hardware of automotive technology been hidden under steel sheet and fiberglass. Cars of the near future will "let it all hang out" with external plumbing, wiring and other hardware. The prototype we see here is only the beginning. And the Germans, of course, are in the lead on this but the Japanese will be the first to put it into production.

<![CDATA[TR3-A commented on Hot Hatch Showdown]]> The Cooper is the only FWD car I ever enjoyed driving but I went with the Clio because it is mid-engine AND RWD even though it is French. So sue me.
