With yacht-owning merrymakers in mind, Castagna has turned a perfectly serviceable Fiat 500 into an electric tender. To do so, they scrapped the engine in favor of an electric motor and batteries (capable of 87 mph), removed the doors and cut off the roof. Quickly discovering that the de-topped 500 had a tendency to fold in half over bumps, they raised the doorsills to brace the chassis. The interior has been redone in wood and a blue/white striped cloth, all the better to accent the Chanel sailor outfits its elderly, leather-faced owners are sure to wear. We expect to see one submerged off the Monaco pier in the near future, surrounded by fishes zapped dead by its waterlogged batteries. More »

Italian coachbuilding firm Castagna — best known for their unabashed Mini-caminos — released images of its latest project. It's called the Aznom — Monza spelled backward — a reskinned Corvette Z06. If you were at the Top Marques show in Monaco earlier this year, you may have seen the Aznom in its 'Vette-informed glory. Cues range from the 1953-style grille to the flanks of the Stingray. But the new body hides a stoked LS7 producing upward of 750 hp. Speed claims range from a zero-to-60 time of 3.4 seconds to a top speed of 217. Let the intense, OCD-grade scrutiny begin. – Mike Spinelli More »

We're not sure how this one's gonna fly with the Mini cogniscenti, given that Wert has literally received death threats on his voicemail over his recent video escapade. Literally. Like, they tracked down his phone number and shit. And made, like, death threats. That's how dedicated and/or psychotic these people are. Even the disgruntled vanners — who are mostly from New Jersey — just e-mailed to say that vannin' wasn't dead while imploring us to keep on vannin'. <a href="http://jalopnik.com/164917/homocidal-maniacs-unite-the-minicamino" title="Click here to read more about Homocidal Maniacs Unite! Well-heeled Mini lovers in warm climes who require space enough to haul burlap sacks of coconuts (or whatever) finally have a car that meets their rather unique need-set. Milanese coachbuilder Castagna (remember this?) is offering the Mini Tender, based on a Cooper cabrio that's been lengthened by more than 27 inches. It's the perfect yacht-side companion, with a shower (fed by an eight-gallon water tank), plus 2000-watt audio system, teak appointments and seats of waterproof neoprene. More »

If 2006 will be recalled as the year the 1960s came back for an encore (Challenger, Camaro), it may also be remembered as the beginning of a 1930s resurgence as well. A new homage to the 1920s coachbuilding houses will make its debut at the Geneva show. That's the
Imperial Landaulet,
product of recently revived Carrozzeria Castagna of Milan, Italy, which draws on the 1924-1931 Tipo 8A Isotta-Fraschini, a vehicle for the well-heeled that sported a Castagna-built body. The prototype is said to get its power from am 800hp V12 (a near eight-fold increase over the original's eight), and will likely spawn a production model to premiere at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. More »
