Frankfurt Auto Show: Wiesmann GT MF 5
We heard it was coming, and then there it was. Wiesmann's new, BMW V10-powered GT MF 5. The five is for 5.0-liter, while the MF is for — well, you know. Wiesmann created the crazed 507-hp creature as a nod to lightweight, overpowered GT cars and roadsters of old. It's also wider than Wiesmann's based GT and a far sight more expensive, at €178,900. We love it when rumors come true. According to the fine lads at Motor Authority, Wiesmann will for reals be stuffing the M5's 507 horsepower V10 into their GT, calling the petite beastie the GT MF 5 Coupe and bringing it to Frankfurt so auto-journo types can drool all over it. [Motor Authority] -

Wiesmann GT: Hot or Not?
We're taking a break from our normally scheduled programming to tackle a more burning issue: Is the Wiesmann GT sexy? Or a badly cribbed Frankenstein? Or, a sexy Frankenstein? The more we look, the more we have no idea. In no particular order, the BMW-powered two door looks like a Jaguar S-Type, A Morgan Aero 8, a late 90s TVR, an M Coupe, an Alfa 8C Competizione and a Bugatti Type 57 "Imaginaire." Oh, and the headlights come straight from an after market WRX tuner. None of which are a bad thing (except for the S-Type), but does all the design pilfering make the diminutive German GT a redheaded step child? Or Padma Lakshmi? Mmmmm, Padma Lakshmi... You know, since talking about the appreciation of beauty and all, we're going to employ the system Hustler uses for rating "film." More » -

All In: Wiesmann GT Might Get M5's 507 HP V10
We've always dug the Wiesmann GT. It's exactly the sort of car we don't see enough of over here in Bush country: a mad, coachbuilt, ceviche-raw sportster. Though, reports say that's set to change come 2010. We've never driven a Wiesmann, but we'd imagine that with 362 horsepower drawn from a BMW-sourced 4.8-liter V8 pushing around an approximately 2,500 pound car, performance is likely sizzling. Did we say sizzling? We meant not sizzling enough. Word is, Wiesmann will present a 507 hp, 8,250 rpm, F1-derived V10 iteration of their GT next month at Frankfurt . So what if the GT looks like an M Coupe and a Jag S-Type played a drunken game of hide the sausage? Zero-to-60 times in the four-second range and the very real possibility of wheel spin in every gear make our hearts go all a flutter. [Motor Authority] -

Your Roadsters, Coupes Are Belong to US: Wiesmann to Make Play for American Market
We're in a coffee shop in midtown Manhattan, eyeballing the glum salarymen who come and go with calming regularity. If they only knew what we and AutoWeek know, their day would be irreversably brightened. It seems our favorite German coachbuilder, Wiesmann — creator of the $142,000 Wiesmann GT above and likewise six-figure Wiesmann MF3 roadster — is upping production with an eye toward hitting the states around 2010. The company won't be starting a dealer network, co-owner Martin Wiesmann told AW, and instead will form sales partnerships. According to AW, Wiesmann's plans include sales of 300 of its BMW-powered cars per year by decade's end — a 300% increase over the number it sold in 2005, while reducing wait times from up to 18 months currently to a more customer-friendly span. Wiesmann GT Coupe up for Germany's Design Award
The designers at Wiesmann seem to have never met a sexy curve they didn't render in sheetmetal. It's for that reason the company is up for lionization by Germany's Industrial Design Council, an offshoot of the country's Ministry ofSilly WalksEconomy and Technology, for its Wiesmann GT coupe. It's not the first award the company has won; the GT has already taken the Red Dot Design Award. Yeah, it's that hot. The Wiesmann GT
Wiesmann announced it will produce a GT version of its hand-built, BMW-powered, carbon-fiber bodied sports car, making it an actual racing contender rather than just another hot, young pavement queen. The German tuning haus, which raced a version of the GT at last year's 24-hour Nurburgring race, based the production car on its roadster, adding 15 inches in length and increasing its footprint from merely lionine to elephantine. Still, the GT shares the potent mechanicals of its open-top cousins — a 4.8-liter BMW-sourced V8, hooked to a six-speed manual transmission, with an optional SMG sequential semiautomatic transmission available later in the year.
