2008 Audi TT 2.0 TDI, Reviewed
It's strongly rumored the diesel version of the Audi TT could find its way stateside. With that in mind, the boys over at Popular Mechanics packed their bags and boarded a midnight plane to Blighty to try one out. In a cable back to their New York HQ, they report the oil-burning 2008 Audi TT 2.0 TDI is smooth, refined and makes overtaking easy as a wiggle of your big toe. Exclusively available in the UK with a 6-speed manual, they calculated their average fuel economy during a mix of city and highway driving to be 39.1 MPG (US). That's while making 258 lb-ft and reaching a top speed of 140 MPH, mind you. Please, god of cars, bring us this beautiful torque-heavy 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Please! More » -

Audi TT Clubsport Quattro Interior Defies Meme, Made Mit Aluminum Und Orange?!
Audi's apparently taking the TT Clubsport Quattro — the same show car we spotted looking much more production-like earlier this month — to the Wörthersee Tour. That's the same Tour we could make neither heads nor tails of a few days later when Audi revealed their A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro concept. At least now we understand why we're seeing the Clubsport Quattro's exterior aluminum und shteel looking a little less concept-like and a little more prêt-à-porter, it's the interior that's got us flummoxed. Audi's thrown caution, and apparently "shteel," to the wind. The interior of the new for-show version of the TT Clubsport Quattro? It's made in that typical Audi fashion — heavy amounts of aluminum — und — und — orange? Ja, mit orange. Can you imagine what the job of vetting an Audi press release translation must be like before they go out? "Hans, that does not sound like what you think that sounds like!" "Nein, our vives demand zee TT clubsport quattro mit zee oranghe! Zis vee musht do!" Full press release below the jump reveals all. More » -

2010 Audi TT Clubsport Quattro
We first saw the Audi TT Clubsport Quattro — a spectacular take on the bubble-topped drop-top Audi TT — about a year ago this month. We knew shortly after we saw the concept the Clubsport Quattro would make it to production and the showroom floor. Now, one year later, the quick-like-a-bunny spy shooters at KGP have caught the Clubsport Quattro as it's gone from concept to production prototype. The prototype displays some key changes from the concept seen way-back-when, like bigger, longer and more uncut A-pillars, a windshield that's sitting a wee-bit taller, larger side-view mirrors and that all-important additional brake light for governmental regulation satisfaction. Oh, and let's not forget those door handles straight from the Audi TT. Remember those off the concept? Of course you don't — the concept lacked such silliness as a means of entering the two-door 'vert. And what about the engine? No clue yet, however the Clubsport concept was powered by an engine derived from the Audi S3, producing 300 horsepower. Whether that engine will be used in this production spin-off is not yet clear. We also don't know what the model year will end up being, but whether 2010 or 2011, we're looking forward to this very imaginative re-imagination of Audi's cute little TT. Full spy report from KGP after the jump.

Lithuanian Audi TT and VW Golf Accident
When you're living in a former iron curtain nation and sporting a last generation Audi TT, you're probably even more likely to suffer from German car driver syndrome. Audi TT 2.0 TDI Quattro Announced
Seems that somebody is pushing forward with more diesel cars. In this case it's the Ingolstadt jungen heeding the call with the freshly announced Audi TT 2.0 TDI Quattro. Everything Audi TT we've seen already but with added oil burning flavor for maximum enjoyment. The turbocharged four pot common rail diesel manages 170 hp at about 4,200 rpm and a healthy 258 lb.ft. or torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. That meaty power band is good for 0-100 km/h sprints in the neighborhood of 7.5 seconds - not bad for an engine good for a claimed 44 mpg. No word on US market release, but maybe if we shout loud enough they'll hear us. Gnaw on the press release below the fold More » -

Totally Pointless Audi TTS Ad Has Us Scratching Our Heads
Okay, apparently whoever is doing the new ads for the Audi TTS is phoning it in, cause we have no idea what this commercial is trying to tell us. Is the TTS meant for periodic jaunty high speed runs in dry lake beds only to return for the awesome scenery? Perhaps the vaguely homo erotic undertones and selection of that sexy red paint is an attempt to target the elusive and lucrative gay market. Does the ad have a point? Is Audi actually trying to evoke something here? Doesn't seem like it. -

Detroit Auto Show: Audi TTS Coupe & Roadster Official Pics, Details
We've now got the official scoop and pics of the Audi TTS Roadster & Coupe that broke through the embargo shields on Tuesday, sans that horrible watermark from Motorpasîon. Confirming what we'd heard, the Audi's will get the more potent 2.0-liter Turbo FSI four banger good for 272 horsepower. This will give them a 0-62 time between 5.4 and 5.6 seconds for the coupe and roadster, respectively. They'll go on sale in the UK sometime around mid year. More » -

Detroit Auto Show Buggery: Audi TTS Pics, Info Leak
Internet FTW! Spanish auto site Motorpasión posted the first press shots of Audi's more hardcore version of the latest TT, the long-awaited TTS coupe and roadster. The more potent TTS will allegedly get Audi's 2.0 TFSI four producing 272 hp, along with a choice of 17-or 18-inch wheels, altered bodywork and LED daytime lights. We'd imagine Audi reps are none too happy with the embargo break, and we wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the phrase "going out for tapas" takes on a very sinister connotation after this week. Audi TT-S Roadster?
The thinking wishful, the rumors longstanding. Still, Audi watchers say the Audi TT-S is destined for four-rings forecourts any time now. Audi Clubsport Quattro Concept
Germany's AutoBild is the first to go to press with images of Audi's newest concept model, the Clubsport Quattro. It's a take on the new TT with cues taken from the Porsche 356 Speedster of old, with chopped glass, a virtually nonexistent A-pillar and a 300-hp version of the VW/Audi 2.0-liter TFSI mill, with Audi's S-Tronic (DSG) dual-clutch box trading gears. It gets its gumption from a more copious turbocharger, and it sports carbon ceramic brakes and 20" wheels of light alloy. Designers also fitted grillework last seen propped up behind home plate. Project Snowflake! Kia Plans an Audi TT Rival for Frankfurt
According to AutoExpress Hyundai's Kia brand is working up a new sports-car concept for this year's Frankfurt show that could go head to head with the Audi TT. It'll be a high-concept play, much like the KCV-III concept (shown) introduced in Frankfurt in 2003. It's no real surprise, considering Kia's European design boss is Peter Schreyer, from whose hand came the first-generation Bauhaus TT. The Kia counterpart is codenamed Project Snowflake, a riff on Schreyer's Audi nickname of Raindrop (must be a riot working down there). The concept will be powered by a new, turbocharged 2.0-liter, which will show up in a new hot-hatch version of Hyundai's Cee'd. Word is the concept could hit production by 2009. More » -

Forbes thought well enough to put it at the top of the 10 fastest American cars list because, um, it's wicked fast. Car Hack's Notebook: Covering the Essen Show, Day Two
Volkswagen Audi Group can feel a bit slighted not to be the first port of call on the Essen show, but even a four-wheel drive, 300 hp battle wagon can't make a huge impression in this company. Still, the Passat R36 is a serious piece of kit in its own right, and should be an enticing alternative for those who want the performance but not the price premium that goes with Audi S4 ownership. It's a near-perfect Q car, especially in Touring form. Only the deep airdams, dinner-plate brake discs and mildly revised aero kit give away the violence held within. There are faster cars in the world, but no faster VW, this one will hit 60mph in 5.6s and go on to the standard 155mph top end. More » -

Spy Photos: Audi TT RS
Word came down earlier this year that Audi was indeed working on an RS version of its new TT coupe, following reports to the contrary. Audi kind of had to do it, considering the existence of BMW's M Coupe, Porsche Cayman S and Mercedes' SLK 55 AMG in the hot little market. According to spies, a reported 350 hp on tap and other tweakage will make such a flagship TT worthy of Audi's highest-performance designation. The latest reports indicate Audi will opt for a tweaked-out version of the 3.6 liter FSI V6, not a worked over, twin-turbo 2.5 liter in-line five, as had been reported. Show Us Your TTs: Audi Indeed Working up Performance Versions of New Coupe
Unsatisfied with the mechanical hotness of Audi's new TT? Edmunds Inside Line is reporting two up-spec'd TT models are on the way, following a similar performance-badging continuum as Audi's more conventional lines. Adding to a recent missive in Motor Trend, Edmunds says at hand are the TT-S for 2007 and TT-RS for 2008. The TT-S will have similiar hardware as the company's new S3 hatch — that is, 265 hp from its turbocharged 2.0-liter four — though the TT could get additional horsepower by way of engine tweaks. The TT-RS won't get the 3.6-liter V6, as many had speculated. Instead, it'll reportedly get a turbo'd version of the North American Jetta's 2.5-liter five-cylinder, fitted with an identical cylinder head configuration as the company's 5.2-liter V10, and producing in the neighborhood of 365 hp. Transmission choices will allegedly include six-speed manual and a 7-speed version of the Tiptronic autobox. We're still waiting for the transverse-mounted V8. More » -

Report: Audi Working on Super TT
What happens when you slice the Lamborghini Gallardo's V10 in half? (Don't try it at home, kids.) Actually, you get junk, unless you're an Audi engineer. Then — as MotorTrend reports — you get a 350-hp inline five for a version of the new Audi TT, being developed under the working name, TT-Lambo. In theory, the powerplant would be similar to the 2.5-liter inline five from the VW Golf and Jetta, but a new cylinder head and turbocharger would result in a car, reportedly due in 2009, that's a new incarnation of the TT Quattrosport, albiet one for US buyers as well.
