What Car Would You Like To See Get Electrified?
GM thinks that buyers are going to want a small, economical electric/hybrid car, a la the Chevy Volt — and much like the EV1, actually. Tesla thinks we'd like what is basically a responsibly green Lotus, though they also acknowledge our desire for more room with the Whitestar. Nissan thinks we want an Electric Cube, and, you know, we sort of do. We certainly sing the praises of the Se7en Electric; that's a no-brainer. But what car, or what type of car, would we like to see electrified? Cheapo small cars aren't a bad start, given the lower weight and lower cost, but is that going to move the market? What do you want? What should they build?

Tesla Makes The Wealthy Feel More Responsible
We knew the Tesla was a popular car among the famous, like Matt Damon, but it seems the 225-mile range $109,000 ride is becoming the feel-good car among the rich too. Greenwich, Conn., a city known for old money, is apparently the new hotspot for Tesla wannabes. Tesla recently brought a vehicle to a Greenwich hotel to allow potential owners the opportunity to take a quick test drive, yielding predictable results. More »

Tesla Whitestar Sedan Powertrain Mule Caught Lurking About, Wearing Dodge Magnum Skin
This seemingly normal-looking Dodge Magnum caught by the forum fan-boys at Tesla's future Menlo Park store hides something more electric under its skin. We're told it's a powertrain mule for the Tesla Whitestar (or Tesla Model S) sedan just announced this past week. The tell-tales are the different rear wheels and lack of any rear license plate, but look closely, and you'll see there's also no visible tailpipe. Also, Tesla PR claims it is, in fact, a Model S mule. More »

Tesla Announces Model S All-Electric Sedan With 225-Mile Range, $60K Price Tag
UPDATE In addition to announcing the Model S, Telsa boss Elon Musk has stated they hope to develop their technology to the point where future cars may be priced at $30,000 and below, but that won't be the case when the first models roll out in four years. So, no car, no price, no launch date. Nothing to see here, folks. Tesla, makers of the Tesla Roadster that hasn't yet seemed able to make it to market, have just announced plans for the Model S, a five passenger, all-electric "sports" sedan capable of 225 miles in a charge and a starting price in the range of $60,000. We have yet to see images of the car or details on the date, but the Governator himself was on hand to announce the Model S will be built in a new manufacturing facility somewhere in California. This was rolled out amidst new plans created by the California Air Resources Board to encourage zero emissions vehicle adoption. Matt Damon To Save World Again, This Time With Tesla Roadster
Everyone's favorite Film Actors Guild member, Matt Damon, was spotted yesterday driving a baby blue Tesla Roadster. Just like the common people, Damon's been unable to purchase a Tesla yet, the company is still sorting out nagging quality issues and ramping up for full production. Tellingly, Damon's tester was only capable of operating in high gear, leaving the actor a bit nonplussed with its off-the-line performance, but says, "the 30-60 acceleration is like nothing else."[via Autofiends]

Tesla's Elon Musk Claims IPO To Come This Year
Who needs to actually be in production of anything in order to toss out an initial public offering? Not most companies and certainly not Tesla. Elon Musk, the CEO of the wanna-be makers of the first mass-produced electric sled told attendees of the TieCon conference this weekend that he plans to take his electric-car company public by the end of 2008. Expect Fisker to file suit later today against Tesla for trying to do what they thought about doing like a year ago. (Hat tip to Kevin!) [NYT Dealbook]

Fisker Seeks Arbitration With Tesla In Ongoing Eco Slap Fight
It looks like Henrik Fisker and company are asking to have the Tesla suit arbitrated in Orange County. As you're all well aware, neither Fisker nor Tesla are actually making cars but are instead just suing the crap out of each other over various charges (here's an explanation of the Tesla and Fisker suit). Tesla Spotted In Palo Alto, Price Of Electrons Climbs
A few months before I started writing for El Jalop, one of the few Mercedes-Benz F-Cell fuel cell cars parked on my block for while, and I'm still kicking myself for not photographing it. The anonymous tipster who sent in the shots of a Tesla Roadster he found parked in Palo Alto, on the other hand, had his camera primed and ready when the moment of truth arrived. This week we heard about a couple of lawsuits mythical electric sports car almost-manufacturer Tesla has managed to get tied up in. The first one saw Magna suing Tesla for breach of contract over its transmission design, the other was Tesla going medieval on Fisker for allegedly stealing designs associated with the Tesla Whitestar Hybrid for its Fisker Karma Hybrid. Another Twist: Tesla Sued By Magna Powertrain
The drama surrounding Tesla continues to unfold as recently discovered court documents show that the debatably legitimate electric automaker is being sued by Magna Powertrain. The lawsuit dates back to February 22 and states that Tesla failed to pay Magna for design of the two-speed transmission used in the Tesla Roadster. Top speed is promised to be over 130 MPH, which isn't all that impressive, but Lightning is claiming the electric powertrain will deliver 700+ HP from its wheel-mounted electric motors charged by your home electric plugs. Acceleration from 0-60 is estimated to be about 4.0 seconds. That's enough to give any Aston Martin a run for its money. Though there's no word on price, you can leave Lightning a $30,000 deposit if you're interested. It all sounds fantastic, but frankly we'd like to see one that isn't a CG rendering before we plunk down our wad of cash.
