Audi Forces Humans To Do Mechanical Bidding, Build Q5

Audi released this clever TV spot depicting what looks to be a human wave creating a 2009 Audi Q5 and all of its mechanical bits for its Asian premiere at the Audi Grand Motor Show. More »

Audi Q5: Made From Cardboard Boxes

Who knew the 2009 Audi Q5 was built from cardboard boxes? We thought BMW, with their melts-when-wet GINA light visionary concept, was the only automaker with a paper-based vehicle.

ABT Sportsline Tunes Audi Q5, Thinks SUV Means "Particularly Sporty"-UV

ABT, let's talk. Listen, we've been friends for a while now and you often build amazingly badass modified Audis. But the ABT Audi Q5 is just too much. We opened up your email today showing off the modified Audi Q5 along with a press release, and it took us a moment to overcome the 'Are they serious?' moment we had. We know you like flamboyant front and rear fascia changes and big gaudy wheels, but isn't this a bit much? Seriously, no quantity of engine, brake and suspension upgrading is going to get us into this thing. It's too much. Dial it down from eleven. Press release after the jump. More »

Audi Q5 Spied Enjoying The Sights And Sounds Of Malibu

A reader over at the Burlapp Car Page snapped a photo of a completely unmasked 2009 Audi Q5 in Malibu basking in the warm glow of the brilliant Pacific sun. We assume this is an early tester out measuring how many and what kind of Jamba Juice containers will fit in the cupholders. Though the Audi Q5 leans a bit heavy on the jellybean looks, when it lands in America it should be motivated by a turbocharged inline-four mated to the twin-clutch 7-speed steptronic transmission out of the 2009 Audi A4, allowing it to run circles around your neighbors Lexus RX. 2009 Audi Q5 Revealed, Officially

Not like anyone went to the trouble of revealing the 2009 Audi Q5 un-officially, but the point is the wraps have now come off the new Small-UV from Auto Union this morning ahead of the live reveal at this week's Beijing Motor Show. What more is there to say about this overgrown jellybean other than the press release below the jump? Audi says the Q5 gets "slim, coupe-like styling." We're of the opinion that just because a vehicle is marginally slimmer and more attractive than a Q7 doesn't allow you to claim "slim, coupe-like styling." So, if you believe they're spot on — then go ahead and hit the jump because you'll believe just about anything. More »

Audi Q5 Spied Taking Right Turn

These are absolutely the most exciting shots of the pending Audi Q5 we've ever seen. They've got us sitting right at the edge of our seats. Watch in excitement as the latest pointless utility vehicle makes a dramatic low speed right turn on a road winding lazily through an empty field. Ponder in amazement what reason Audi would ever have for building yet another crossover in an allready over-saturated market. Watch as you become stupified with astonishment as the shrunken Q7 makes it's worldwide debut at the China Motor Show in a couple of days, allowing you... More »

Was Ist Das? Neue Photos of The Audi Q5

We were so busy with the Q7 review, it seems the newly minted Autobild artists renditions slipped right by us. Our German is rusty (more like seized up) so we're going to treat these with kid gloves, but it looks like a new interpretation of details on the BMW X3 fighter. Even though some of these images are really clear, we have a hard time believing they're undoctored photos. You never know what those photoshopping kids can pull off these days. More »

Purported Audi Internal Product Release Schedule Leaks on to Internet, Reveals Underpowered Audi TT-S

A number of Audi fan forums across the internet have a spreadsheet showing up that purportedly shows a list of each and every product launch in Germany for 2008 (high-res shot here). Included in the spreadsheet are such noted notables as the Q5 and Q7 V12 TDI at the end of the third quarter, the Audi TT-S listed in the second quarter and the A4 Avant is listed with a spring 2008 reveal. But, what's most interesting is the power number revealed by the document for the Audi TT-S. More »

Report: Audi Q5 to Debut at Los Angeles Auto Show

We've already seen countless prototypes caught by the long-lens set. Now, according to Automotive News, Audi's new small SUV/crossover and younger debutante sister to the Q7 — that is, the Q5 — will receive its coming out at the LA auto show later this month. Apparently, Audi's competitor to the BMW X3 and upcoming Mercedes GLK will go on sale in the US in early 2008. Expect engine choices to run the Audi gamut, from 2.0-liter four to 3.0-liter six over autobox or VW/Audi's new seven-speed DSG. As is the case with all new Audi models, some are discussing an S version with the corporate 4.2-liter V8, though that's eminently wishful at this point.

    2009 Audi Q5, From Above

It could be wearing a wetsuit, or just a nice gabardine number, but AutoExpress spies caught Audi's midsize Q5 SUV. AE says the smaller Q-truck be fitted with Audi's twin-clutch S tronic automated manual box (Volkswagen's DSG), along with Audi's updated Quattto system and an automated drive control system that adjusts settings of the engine, transmission, steering and adaptive suspension one of several modes selected via Audi's Multi Media Interface (MMI). The five-seat Land Rover LR2 competitor will come in gas and diesel versions in the UK, gas only in the US. [AutoExpress]

    Audi Q5, Nearly There

Audi's entry in the small-SUV sweepstakes is nigh, and spy photogs caught it with only some of its skivvies on. The shots reveal the Q5 mid-mini ute sporting Audi's latest design tropes introduced with the A5 this past year. That is, a combination of heightened surface tension (a la BMW) and heightened curvaceousness, including a downward slope at the rear. Underneath is the same Modular Long Platform (MLP) underpinnings as the A5 and next A4. Expect the five seater to come with hill-descent control, adjustable air suspension and a range of engines. A 4.2-V8 powered S version, however, is a big, fat hmm. [via World Car Fans]

    Audi Q5 in Canvas

Please to ignore that man under the potato sack. He's allegedly driving the upcoming Audi Q5, which if all goes according to conjecture, will debut in 2009. Car insists a 400-hp Porsche-tuned version of the small SUV is forthcoming, though the Stuttgarters have said nein to that noise. Nonetheless, the new ute will be based on the new, modular Audi A4 platform and be built at the company's Ingolstadt plant. Look to the Shanghai surprise Cross Coupe concept car below for hints. Porsche To Add Lightness, Insanity: The Roxster Is Nigh

Update: And now we're under the back fence. Porsche has just released a statement claiming nein, there will be no baby-SUV. However, if they did indeed grad the moniker Roxster, we have some advice for them. Stuff the twin-turbo V8 into the middle of the Cayman. That's a Roxster. More »

Shanghai Auto Show: Audi Cross Coup Concept Reveal

We popped down the river's edge last night to check out the debut of Audi's Cross Coup Concept, which seems to be a big, throbbing hint at the direction the Q5 crossover will take. Audi desing honcho Stefan Sielaff pointed out that the tallights are of the "utmost precision," while we seem to recall that company boss Rupert Stadler (resplendent in pink tie) said something about Shanghai being the turbo on Audi's cherry. They flew in the cast of STOMP! to introduce the car and then had some really terrible Chinese band play a few songs, one of which we swore was going to be Rosanna by Toto. Quote of the night goes to Stadler: "China is set to become Audi's second home market, I assure you." More »

Coming Soon to a Decade Near You: The Audi A7

No Audi's not done deriving new models, considering there are still a couple of counting numbers it hasn't yet appropriated. For instance, it's been a year since we've heard anything new about the coming Audi A7/S7, a new coupeish four-door set to challenge the Mercedes CLS by 2009. Ditto for the Q5 small SUV. Now, German news outlets are reporting on the company's raft of new badges it's rolling out in its quest to be a major luxury player. The A7's expected to hit in 2009 for the 2010 model year. It'll be built on the same platform as the A8 and offer a range of engines including the Lambo-derived V10 for the S7 model. MotorAuthority offers a rendering of what it could look like. No word on whether Audi's also considering a two-door sedan, a six-door hatchback or a 12-door airport bus, but insiders say put a sock in it. More »

Spy Photos: Audi Q5 Test Mule

It's been so long since we've heard a peep from Audi's Q5 small ute program that we'd almost forgotten it was in play. If you hadn't heard, the company is reportedly building a smaller SUV to slot in below the Q7 and compete with the BMW X3, Land Rover Freelander and on-the-way Mercedes GLK. Now, spies — who caught shots of a mule built from the sheetmetal of an Allroad wagon — say the Q5 will be larger than those rivals, with components derived from the VW Touareg and a platform wrenched from the A4 and A6. That means V8 power for the US market. It also means that when it arrives in early 2008, it'll occupy its own niche of smallish, V8-powered crossover luxury utes. Audi: 1, dead horse: 0. More »

New Audi Q5 Ute Confirmed for Inglostadt Production

We were just sitting here listening to our Bo Bice albums and playing Risk with ourself (we win!), when in comes an e-mail from The German Car Blog. It seems the old Auto Union boys have announced (in German) that the long-awaited little brother to the new Audi Q7, the Q5, will be built At Audi Werk Ingolstadt on the banks of the Danube in Germany. The company's investing Nearly $400 million in the facilities, and hiring allocating 1,700 new employees to swing the hammers. The new crossover SUV, which will be based on the A4, will likely appear in 2007 as a 2008 model. More »

New Audi Q5 Crossover: Definite! Maybe!

The boys at The German Car Blog found a piece in Germany's Auto Motor und Sport indicating the Audi Q5 "has been officially announced as possible." (We're already popping theoretical bottles of champagne in mock celebration.) Still, we hear the Q5 could make its debut as early as the Geneva show next month, and Automobile has already gone on record that the BMW X3 fighter will debut in the 2007 model year. If we had to predict, a concept Q5 will be unveiled at the show, with a production model introduced in 2008. Consider that a pre-announcement unannouncement. More »

Report: Europe to Get Audi's Roadjet; Hearkens US-Bound Q5

Automobile confirmed that Audi is building a production version of the Roadjet concept — a sports sedan slotted between the A4 and A6 — it unveiled at the Detroit auto show this year. While that car won't be available in the US (thanks for nuthin' Awdy), it will be closely related to the long-anticipated Q5 — a taller ute-over (think: Roadjet Allroad). We'd imagine the juiced-up 3.2-liter six, producing 300hp, will likely survive the transition, though the espresso machine mounted in the rear console will be sacrificed to the gods of "take it down a notch." The End of the Allroad: Audi Plans for Q5 Crossover

Edmunds Inside Line is reporting that Audi could launch its new Q5 crossover SUV as a concept model at this year's Frankfurt motor show. According to sources, Audi will convert its Allroad Quattro into a more SUV-like vehicle to directly challenge BMW's X3. But the Q5 — as it will be known — will be built on the same platform as the A4 Avant wagon, not the A6, as is the current Allroad. The Q5 will likely appear in 2007 as a 2008 model. More »
