BMW North America Releases 2009 Model Lineup Prices
BMW has just revealed the MSRP for the entire 2009 North American model lineup (except the new 7-series), along with new option package details and pricing. At the low end, a new 128i Coupe comes in at the comparatively bargain-basement price of $29,200; on the high side, a new M6 Convertible will set you back a healthy $107,500. As far as options, it looks like a heated steering wheel is going to become part of most cold weather packages, and Active Steering will no longer be available on 128i or 328i/xi models. Finally, if you want a double-clutch gearbox on your M3, you'll need to pony up an extra $200 in addition to the base manual transmission option cost of $2,700. Bangle butt still included on many sedans and coupes at no additional charge. Full 2009 BMW model pricing below the jump. More » -

SwiftFuel Is Just Like Fuel, Except Probably Full Of Crap
Today brought us news of a purported new solution to high gas prices: SwiftFuel. Currently intended as a replacement for leaded 100-octane aviation fuel, SwiftFuel claims to be ethanol-based, but somehow free from ethanol's negatives such as its lower energy density, incompatibility with gasoline, and propensity to destroy rubber components. How do we know all this? The company's MySpace page told us so. But since we realize social networking sites sometimes contain minor misrepresentations, we decided to dig deeper. What we've discovered, and more importantly, what we still don't know, after the jump. More » -

2009 Jetta SportWagen Pricing, Specs Announced
While we've been waiting for an official announcement of prices and specs for the 2009 Jetta SportWagen, someone noticed that the prices are actually now up on the VeeDub website. Works for us. The base price, sans destination, is $18,999 for the S mode with the 2.5-Liter I5 and a five-speed manual (which we reviewed). That's a reasonable price for a fairly refined, fun wagon without too many obnoxious features. Add $2K to that price if you want a 6-speed tiptronic tranny. Drop another $1,350 and you can upgrade to the SE model, which includes a much better sound system and faux leather seating. If you want the 2.0T I4, and trust us you do, it's going to cost you a little more. More » -

Value-Added? Wolfsburg Edition Passat Hits Showrooms, Takes A Bite Out Of Pricing
You know your "special edition" isn't really all that special when you're calling it that just because it gives the consumer a better price on up-sized options to create a higher-priced "base model" of your current vehicle. Exhibit A would be the "Wolfsburg Edition" of anything in the line-up of the automaker representing Deutschland. The newest uber-special wolf-like edition is the Passat, and the up-priced "value model""...features a 2.0L, 200-horsepower turbo-charged engine with a standard six-speed automatic Tiptronic transmission...and...unique "Wolfsburg Edition" badging on the driver and passenger front quarter panels. The Wolfsburg Edition Passat also features 17-inch alloy wheels, a four-spoke leather wrapped multi-function steering wheel, leather wrapped gearshift knob and boot, 12-way full power adjustable driver seat, six-disc in-dash CD changer with MP3 capability, heated front seats, power sunroof, fog lights, heated windshield washer nozzles and Sirius satellite radio."
All that for the value-added price of $26,990. Now if you were to just price out a standard Passat with those features, you'd come up with a price a couple grand higher than that which you'd receive on the Wolfburg, but hey, keeping things standard lowers the price in a mass production firm like V-Dub, don't it? Pricing! GMC Professionally Grades 2007 Acadia CUV At A Starting Price Of $29,990
You'll need to be a "professional" if you want to apply for a lease or purchase deal on GMC's new crossover hotness, the Acadia. The General's new CUV is nothing if not pricey at a starting price of $29,990 for the FWD base unit. While certainly not as many ducats as FoMoCo's new Mercury MKX (that starting price of $34,795 still gives us a double-take, plus a quick jaw-to-the-floor) it's still more expensive than the Ford Edge (pricing in at a comparably inexpensive $25,995) by almost $4,000. FoMoCo's Lincoln brand's released pricing on their new CUV hotness, the MKX. The base model will start at $34,795 and the AWD model hits the showroom floors at $36,445. Our first reaction, after the obligatory bugs bunny double take, rubbing of the eyes, and yelling of "Zoinks!" was to question the reasoning behind the MKX's almost $10,000 differential in price from the Ford Edge, it's badge-engineered CUV-cousin. Other than fine corinthian leather, what do you get for the money you work hard for? Well — you actually do seem to get a significantly upgraded interior and...umm...hmm...well...we're not so much sure what else. All the other stuff we'd normally point to like nav system, heated seats, sunroof, etc. all comes added atop that base price. So apparently, the extra $10K gets you a pretty new interior, a non-razor-blade front end, and a pretty little badge on the exterior which says "Lincoln." Money well spent. Ford's Fuel Cost Tourniquet: Slash Pricing On 2007 Expedition SUV
Cutting prices on your newest SUV by an average of $4,300 is one way to make a "Bold Move," or a desperate one, really considering the current model just isn't selling. We guess that explains why Ford's dropped the base MSRP on all packages of its new big-ass SUV by a whopping $4,300. Although we've got to say, the exterior of this big SUV, inspired by the beast of burden looks of the Ford F-Series pickup, looks better than the '06 model no matter how pimp the package purchased. But with that big 5.4 liter 3-valve Triton V8 engine, you know it'll suck down gas like it's going out of style — so guess where the "savings" will really be going — and no, you're first guess shouldn't be your pocket. Saturn Vue Green Line Priced
GM's kept a promise it made last year when it first started dropping hints about the Saturn SUV Green Line into conversation with the chicks at Hef's grotto (at least that's how we picture it happening). It's priced the Saturn VUE Green Line compeitively not with fellow hybrids, but with non-hybrid SUVs in the same class. It's also selling the Green Line's decent-but-not-outstanding mileage figures in comparison with gas-only models. It's a smart strategy considering the Vue employs a mild hybrid system, in which the electric motor supports the gas engine not takes over for it — leaving mileage numbers less than sexy. Still, it winds up with 170 horsepower from the 2.2-liter four, compared to the gas-only version's 143, and uses a stop-start system to reduce emissions. MSRP starts at $22,995 and the EPA says it'll get 32 mpg on the highway (adjust expectations downward). It all means GM can claim the lowest-priced hybrid SUV on the market. Huzzah. More »
