Nissan Nuvu Concept, Revealed, Previews Next Micra

By now you’re either laughing or cooing at the Nuvu, but this is a supposedly not just a silly design exercise, but a preview of the next Nissan Micra. Short for “New View,” the Nissan Nuvu is targeted at urban dwellers, and uses an electric powertrain to deliver zero emissions. It’s rumored the electric motor, which drives the front wheels directly sans transmission and is capable of 77 miles on a single charge while topping out at 72 MPH, will actually reach a production model some time next year. Yeah, we'll buy that when we see it. Worth noting on the design is what appears to be a centrally mounted internal pillar that supports the glass and solar panel roof. A neat, if impractical, touch. In Japan, Efficiency Drives You

Nissan has announced a new eco-driving function for its Japan-only CARWINGS navigation system that looks set to make low fuel consumption a competitive sport. Not only will vehicles equipped with the Eco-Drive and You service be able to display instantaneous and average economy figures and the exact amount of money saved by driving in an eco-friendly manner, but also they'll be able to compare data with other cars in real-time, awarding drivers a numerical rank within classes of vehicle and even medals for top performers. Eco-Drive and You is also capable of providing both visual and audio guidance to drivers on how to drive in a more economical manner. Nissan's Ghosn Green

Carlos "Guitarlos" Ghosn is pushing his company's dedication to lighter, more compact battery units. While Nissan's current hybrid system is based on NiMH batteries with powertrain tech licensed from Toyota, Renault's Japanese brothers are hammering on lithium ion cells in hopes of gaining a competitive advantage in electrical propulsion; in fact, Ghosn says he'd love to see Nissan in the ring with a viable electric vehicle. Nissan Rolls Out First Fuel Cell Car-For-Hire

If you're sans-car in Japan and want to get from A to B in green style, look no further than the X. Nissan has given one of their hydrogen fuel cell-powered X-Trails to Kanagawa Toshi Kotsu, a major chauffeured car operator. The X-Trial features a Nissan fuel cell stack/lithium ion battery combo that provides performance comparable with the gas model.
