Best Mugen Product At SEMA From 1984

Honda's not-quite-in-house tuner Mugen brought out a trio of tweaked Hondas and the best one is this wonderful 1984 CRX Mugen prototype. Oh, how far we've not come. More »

2009 Honda Accord Tuned By Mugen For JDM

Mugen Kits Already Out For JDM Honda Odyssey

So the reveal on the new JDM-only Honda Odyssey happened earlier today, but already those pseudo in-house tuners at Mugen are dropping body kits for a speedier-looking minivan. Available in two flavors, the kits offer revised nose styling, side skirts, rear spoilers, an exhaust kit, new brake pads, apparently new floor mats and snazzier aluminum wheels. We think the US minivan market needs some of this action, don't you? We can just picture the second vannin' craze sweeping grocery store parking lots and day cares across the country. More »

Honda Civic Mugen Type-RR, A Popular Choice For Pirates

With only 300 examples planned and a Japan only audience, the Honda Civic Mugen Type-RR is a rare bird indeed. Somehow, those crazy Frenchmen over at Nihon Car managed to get their hands on one for a review of the 236 HP little beast. There are things we like and dislike about this car; foremost in the "like" category is the combination of an adjustable suspension, a 220 lb slimmer waistline, quicker steering ratio, and the guts to chuck the radio out the window. Mugen Makes Fit Fitter

The new Fit's just been revealed, but Mugen have already had time to tweak it. Featuring the usual assortment of GRP body addenda, annoying exhausts and big wheels, the official Honda tuning partner has also added useful features like upgraded suspension and brakes and a short throw shifter. The Fit's possibly our favorite small car so the idea of speccing the performance upgrades without the visual silliness really appeals to us. [Via Carscoop]

Honda Civic Mugen Si Sedan for 2008

A Honda Civic kitted out with Mugen gewgaws and sold in the US? You are correct, sir. Honda says 1,000 copies of the Civic Mugen Si, shown as a SEMA concept last year, will hit US dealerships for around 30 large this October. It's outfitted with such sporting effects as a lowered, sport-tuned suspension, forged aluminum wheels, and full body dress. Under the hood will be the basic Si's 2.0-liter four producing 197 horses, and hooked to a six-speed manual. It's the first Mugen-tuned Honda to arrive in the states, though not the best, and hopefully not the last.

    Mugen Civic Type R Revealed

If you're a devotee of the Mugen-tuned Honda, and you reside in a prefecture instead of a township, you'll get a crack at the new Mugen RR later this year. It's a Civic Type R fallen under Mugen's spell, with less weight — (-22 lbs at 2733 lbs) — and more horsepower (+15 at 240 hp @ 8,000 rpm) and torque (160 lb-ft @ 7,000 rpm). On top like a cherry is a typical Mugenesque bodykit, along with a wheels-and-tires package, better brakes, stiffer suspension, and Recaro sport bucket seats. If you want one of the 300 set for production, be ready to whip out $38,750 in JDM money. And brush up on your left-hand shifting. More »

Tokyo Auto Salon: Mugen Open-Top Pure Sport Concept

This past weekend at the Tokyo Auto Salon — Japan's aftermarket extravaganza — Mugen showed an open-top concept car derived from the Honda S2000. Dubbed the Open-Top Pure Sport Concept, the roadster wears its motorsports influence in the form of carbon fiber trimmings, Mugen bucket seats and various other cosmetics. No word on engine tuning or other stats to suggest it's not just a styling exercise. Still, we're okay with stock in this case. More »

SEMA Show: 2007 Honda Civic Mugen Si Sedan

Honda's getting all over the factory tuning tip. Starting today, tuner kids can get a Civic Si prepped by Japanese Honda tuner Mugen (which was founded by Hirotoshi Honda, the son of Honda Motor Company founder Soichiro Honda) at their local dealerships. The limited-edition Civics won't be cheap (MSRP of under $30,000), but they will be somewhat hotter in the feet than a base model. The tweaks are mainly to suspension damping, tires and cosmetics, with an aero kit, badging and shift knob. Don't get too excited, only 500 will be produced. Press release after the jump. Tuner Sushi: Mugen's Modded CRV

Famed Honda tuning shop, Japan's Mugen, is introducing a line of CR-V tweakage to sex up the newly rehabbed utility box. With a new, more curvilinear design to draw from, Mugen created a new line of add-ons from special paint, to aero and grille appointments, to engine tuning — well, ok, a decorative top for the engine, not, say, a sicko cam. Maybe they'll have that dialed in by next year's Tokyo Auto Show. [Gallery] More »

Mugen's Hondas at the Tokyo Auto Salon

The shiny objects from Tokyo just keep mesmerizing us like we were infants in IKEA's lighting department. Famed Honda tuner Mugen showed off two worked-over Honda concepts at this past weekend's Tokyo Auto Salon, the Fit Spec-D and the Civic Dominator. The Fit Spec-D, or Dynamite, is a testament to Mugen's adherence to the principles of Gestalt, cramming a supercharger into the engine bay shared by the Fit's 1.5-liter minimill to produce 145 hp — the equivalent of a googleplex in such a miniscule ride. The Civic Dominator is a 300-hp brute with a tuning-kit list that includes a supercharger, Brembo brakes and carbon-fiber aerodynamic effects. Japan's Nihon Car & Bike has the skinny on the phatties.
