Speed Racer Sucked, Took In Less Than $20 Million On Opening Weekend
So we hear Speed Racer kind of sucked, which despite our fervent wishes otherwise, we kind of guessed after watching those damned trailers. In fact, depending on which studio numbers you used, came in either in 2nd place or 3rd place this past weekend, behind the juggernaut that is Iron Man and the silly romantic comedy What Happens In Vegas. Anyone care to guess exactly why the movie sucked? Was it the cartoon-ish graphics? Was it Chim-Chim? Was it — gasp — Christina Ricci? Was it the over-priced cost of $160 million to develop the movie — an amount that allowed the Wachowski brothers to spend more time playing and less time directing? [Deadline Hollywood Daily] -

Iron Man Producers Gives Audi Happy Ending After Destroying R8s
Having driven both the Audi R8 and the Audi Q7, we have to say that although we enjoy driving both, Iron Man Director and Producer Jon Favreau goes a little over the top talking about these two beautiful babies. Yes indeed folks, the theatrical release of Iron Man is just days away and the marketing machine is kicking into full swing. Since Audi is a major sponsor of the film, we get to see two different videos where the men in charge of the movie blab on about how great the cars are. Well, great for driving, but perhaps not for filming because apparently they couldn't get the Q7 to lock its brakes or do a burnout. Oh — and they couldn't destroy the R8 in the way they'd initially wanted to. Destroy an R8 in a huge conflagration? Not a chance if Audi and their big check have anything to say about it. Only they can do that to the R8. Double video action below the fold, and possible ending or alternate ending spoilers. More » -

Iron Man Takes To Flight For The First Time And We Already Know About The Cobra-Destroying Let-Down At The End
We believe we can fly, we believe we can touch the sky. We think about it every night and day, we want to spread our wings and fly away. We believe that like Iron Man, we can soar...and...well, like the man of iron does in this first clip of his first flight in the movie hitting theaters next month, crash the hell back down to earth into a Cobra replica. Audi Opens "Iron Man" R8 Micro-Site, Gives Us A Few More Seconds Of Hot Video Action
After the big Super Bowl blitzkrieg, we all kind of knew the media marketing on Iron Man would muscle it's way beyond mere trailers, and it just has. The culprit? Audi, of course. The multi-ringed brand has spent some serious Deutsche-marks to set up a mini-site for the movie that shows off the R8, the rest of the Audi lineup, some historical background on the brand all about the Vorsprung durch Technik and about three whole seconds of all-new footage from the new movie with some Audi hand-job action spliced with it. Whatever. We're still excited about the movie and everyone already knows how excited we already are for the Audi R8. Although we'd prefer they'd have used the "Iron Man Red" Audi R8 V12 TDI Le Mans we saw live in Geneva. Full press release below the jump. More » -

Full Iron Man Trailer Debuts, Makes Us Want One of Those Suits
After months of Ironman teaser shots and Ironman Super Bowl commercials and all kinds of other nonsense, the full trailer is now live and it's looking pretty good. Convenient for our Leap Day Celebration, Ironman appears to be able to jump right into the suit with some sort of Jetsons style automatic clothes putter-onner then bound around from explosion to explosion. It also looks like the evil-doers get a hold of... oh, we don't want to be a spoiler - watch it yourself. Be forewarned though, the destruction of the Cobra is explained here so be sure you can stomach it after lunch. [also playing at Gizmodo and io9] -

Iron Man Crushes Cobra, We Cry
Poor little Cobra. From what we can tell from this one screen shot found on the official Iron Man web site, the 427 we saw in the teaser shot of the Iron Man Super Bowl commercial — and then in the full commercial itself — doesn't quite make it out of the film in one piece. Ok, so it'sprobablyobviously just a replica (It may be a big-budget flick, but nobody is THAT careless). Either way, we're saddened by the loss. Maybe Iron Man is just placing old supercars on notice, seeing as he does also have that Audi R8. Whatever the reason and despite it more than likely being a kit car, we lament the need to destroy one for the Coliseum crowds coming to watch this comic book cinematic spectacle. (Hat tip to Earl!) -

Iron Man Super Bowl Commercial Shows Off Stark's Hot Garage
UPDATE: The official Iron Man Super Bowl commercial! Apparently it's not just automakers like Hyundai and Chrysler with money to burn this Super Bowl Ad Watch weekend. Nope, it's also the movie industry — it looks like Iron Man will be getting some love in a commercial airing this Sunday during the big game. Apparently, judging by this screen capture of the ad in question, we'll get some shots of Tony Stark spending some time testing his suit in a garage filled with all sorts of hot automobiles. We already knew about the Audi R8, but apparently Stark's also got himself a Cobra, a Saleen S7 and lookie-here, a Tesla roadster. Nice job, Stark — now we know what the "Whitestar" project really was all about, don't we? That's right — a hybrid powertrain for the Iron Man booster rockets. We knew it. Anyway, we'll have the official commercial up here online just as soon as it airs this weekend to add to the original Iron Man commercial — just follow along at our Super Bowl Ad Watch tag and feel free to hit the jump to make the shot above bigger than life.
