Mitsubishi let fly with a detailed teaser image of the Sportback-Concept it'll be inveiling at the Frankfurt motor show — a follow-along to the sketch it released last month. The company says the concept will introduce its vision for a new generation of C-segment (i.e., small to middlin') cars as well as the "design inspiration for a new European five-door sports hatchback." Considering the company's director of sales said recently that a
revolutionary
new Evo X is in the works for 2008, the concept could hearken the design directon of $30,000 rocket sleds to come. The question is, will such a revolution mean the new Evo gets a rumored narrow-angle V8, or will the company stick with a rally-ready, turbo-juiced 2.0-liter four? Why not both? More »

The French have spoken: Viva la minivan! Peugeot-Citroen unveiled its Citroen C-SportLounge concept, which it will show at the Frankfurt show this September. The C-Sport, which the company says is the "true essence of a 21st century Grand Tourer" is heavily influenced by avation, with swept-back lines and an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.26 (about half that of a sphere, if that helps) and an interior with fixed central controls. Its fascia also borrows heavily from the School of Advanced Huge Air Intakes, sharing such forward largess with the new Peugeot 407. More »

Get ready for more post titles that end with "in Frankfurt," since tis the season for global automakers to let fly with the teasers. Renault, for example, released images of a new, up-market crossover SUV it's planning to unveil. Dubbed the Egeus, the concept will offer a first look at Renault's upcoming foray into the midsized SUV arena, which will likely share the Nissan Alliance C platform with the Megane, and use 4x4 mechanicals from the European Nissan X-Trail. Under the hood is a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, which generates 247bhp and a piano-pushing 406 lb ft of torque, and includes a particulate filter to keep a considerable amount diesel junk from the atmosphere. A seven-speed automatic (with paddleshifters) and friction-reducing Michelins also provide fuel economy benefits. The Egeus will likely have more than a few parts in common with Renault's forthcoming Qashqai 4x4, the concept of which was shown in Geneva in 2004.
