Report: Cadillac May Offer CTS With Turbodiesel V8
Rumors are starting to spread of GM considering fitting the new Duramax 4.5-liter turbo diesel V8 in the Cadillac CTS. That would mean an oil-burnin' sedan with a possible 310 HP and at least 520 lb-ft of torque. Think of it as a sort of mid-performance model slotted between the standard 304 HP CTS and the top-spec 556 HP 2009 CTS-V...but with good fuel economy. That's right, not only does the Duramax mill meet new emissions regulations but it's 50-state-legal and it'll also return an estimated 20-25% better fuel economy than a comparable gasoline-powered V8. That efficiency combined with the pavement-melting torque could make for perhaps the best all-around American car ever made. More » -

2009 Cadillac CTS-V: First Drive
Only a couple of minutes into the briefing and already things are going bad. “The supercharged engine doesn’t trail off up to the 6,200 RPM redline, so on the track, you may find yourself hitting the rev limiter once or twice,” says a Cadillac spokesperson, preparing us for our first foray onto the track at Monticello. I’m sheepishly trying to sink further into the leather couch, hoping none of the elderly car journalists sitting around me brings up the fact that, half an hour ago, I was bouncing off the rev-limiter at full throttle in third and fourth gear, passing all of them on the wrong side of a two-lane mountain road. I guess that Cadillac considers the 556 HP, 191 MPH 2009 Cadillac CTS-V so fast that drivers — even professional car reviewers — won’t be able to fully exploit its engine on the road. The thing is, they’re wrong. More » -

Detroit Auto Show Continues To Dominate, Snags New Toyota Prius And Lexus Hybrid Debuts
The Detroit News is reporting group vice president and general manager for Toyota of the Americas, Bob Carter, has confirmed the 2010 Toyota Prius will be debuting at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show and will be joined by a uniquely styled and appointed version for Lexus. The Prius was set to move upmarket relative to its former iterations, but with a Lexus version now on the way, Toyota's own marketplace may be getting crowded. But the bigger story is how this news makes things far more interesting for January's Detroit Auto Show. More » -

Cadillac CTS Coupe To Bow At LA Auto Show
Following a teaser preview at Pebble Beach this past weekend, GM announced the Cadillac CTS Coupe would finally flaunt its doorless flanks for the public at this November's 2008 LA Auto Show. Reports, as well as spy photos and official pres shots we've already seen, indicate the coupe will arrive nearly unchanged from the concept that first bowed at this year's Detroit Auto Show, featuring CTS sedan styling forward of the A-pillar but unique, more-aggressive sheetmetal from that point back. With a center-exit exhaust and a steeply raked rear window, the CTS Coupe is going to be a whole new interpretation of Caddy's design language, and we can't wait to see it at the show. More » -

2010 Cadillac CTS Coupe Strips Down, Shows Some Skin
A Cadillac CTS Coupe without the usual clunky camo was scoped with a long-range lens through a misty Michigan morning by the eagle-eyed photographers at KGP. The photos show that in the transition from CTS coupe concept to reality the designers managed to maintain the large and shapely rear end, but with a few key differences. The tweaks include the addition of safety equipment like red reflectors and although the concept was pillarless, an obvious B-pillar. At least the designers have added a small piece of dark cheater glass, which we're starting to think of as the new requirement for any cut-down sedan-to-coupe platform from a US automaker. Fans of the concept should find these photos encouraging. Full spy report below.

Cadillac Will Downsize Engines When Customers Prove That's What They Want
Cadillac is ready to downsize the engines in their luxury offerings — and they have the ability to do it today if that's what customers indicate they want, according to GM Exec VP Thomas G. Stephens. Unsurprisingly, The 2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon Is Coming

Really? So GM's really going to build a 2010 Cadillac CTS wagon? Who knew? Wait, we did. Also — a 3-series? Our sources tell us the CTS wagon will more likely be a direct competitor to the 5-Series and E-Class wagon rather than a 3-Series. OK Automotive News, what else ya got? More » -

2009 Cadillac CTS-V Specs Made Official, Gets 556 HP
We knew the new super-spec 2009 Cadillac CTS-V would be getting some impressive output numbers, and today the official figures are out — 556 HP at 6,100 RPM and 551 lb-ft of torque at 3,800 RPM. With those bitchin' numbers, the CTS-V will be doing 0-60 MPH in a lightning fast 3.9 seconds, with a standing quarter mile coming in at 12 seconds flat. Sure, but how fast will she go? What about 175 MPH with the six-speed auto and 191 MPH with the manual transmission? Okay, we're a little light-headed at the moment; obviously the CTS-V is warping the space around our brains.

Cadillac CTS Coupe Convertible We Never Knew Will Never See Light Of Day
Inside Line's reporting today that GM's killed a convertible version of the hot little CTS two-door. Although to be fair it's hard for us to mourn the loss of a product when we didn't know the General's luxe brand was even thinking of doing a drop-top version of the Cadillac CTS Coupe until we learned of its demise. Still, kudos to the General for the decision because if the convertible version of the CTS Coupe ended up being anything like the most recent series of 'verts from GM — think Pontiac G6 convertible — we're pretty damn happy they won't be building it. Although if they want to build a 'vert version of the Cadillac CTS Wagon, we'd be all for that. True, it'd look ugly as sin, but we'd totally buy one. [Inside Line] -

2009 Cadillac CTS-V To Produce 567 HP?
Any way you cut it, GM is going for blood with the new and improved 2009 Cadillac CTS-V and word from engineers of an unofficial rating of at least 550 HP only furthers that point. It takes a lot to make the BMW M5 look like a chump, but a 50 HP advantage will do a thing like that. Of course, the engine hasn't gone through SAE certification yet, and based on GM's history of underselling the power output on its recent engines, Edmunds Inside Line is extrapolating a 567 HP figure out of the LS9 mill. We would never go so far as to speculate on numbers, but we will wring our hands in delighted anticipation. More » -

2010 Cadillac CTS Wagon
While we're not entirely sure of the year nor the designation — we're pretty sure what we've got here is what we've been talking about for quite some time now. Yes, that appears to be a wagon-ized version of the already popular Cadillac CTS. We are going to hazard a guess that if it's being built starting next spring it'll have to be a 2010 CTS Wagon. Of course, with the current guess of the Cadillac CTS coupe bear a designation of "CTC" we're thinking maybe the General could name this big-in-the-rear and blade-edged Caddy the "CTW." Whatever. Seriously, the boys and girls at the General can name whatever they want to because all we know is that is surely some seriously pants-tightening Cadillac Style going on under that camo cladding. We likey. Full report from the spy monopoly of Brenda Priddy after the jump. UPDATE: We bought KGP's shots too — if only for the interior and open-hatch sexiness. Don't say we don't love you guys.

Brenda Priddy's cagey Chris Doane's caught the 2010 Cadillac CTS Coupe on camera. Homer Simpson Loves The New Cadillac CTS More Than The Canyonero
As an auto-lover, if you were tuned in to last night's episode of the Simpsons, you weren't disappointed. The longest-running show to not jump the shark showed exactly why it hasn't. Homer's old beater-mobile got one too many dings rear-ending the back of a Pacer look-alike (with what we're assuming can only be an aftermarket airbag) and needed some time in the ol' repair shop. Homer finds himself behind the wheel of a loan-er brand-agnostic luxe-mobile with a remarkable similarity to the new Cadillac CTS. The inside jokes run freely throughout the episode's side storyline, and include what may be the funniest car-related Simpsons line since the Canyonero commercial song. To wit: More » -

2010 Cadillac CTS Coupe
An enterprising spy shooter at Car und Driver named Siler — who we're assured has no relation to the bad guy from Heroes — has captured on film what appears to be two camo-covered 2010 Cadillac CTS Coupes. It's the first known on-road spotting of the new deuce-door CTSexiness, and it appears to — umm — look a lot like the concept car that "blew" our minds last month at the Detroit Auto Show. 2009 Cadillac CTS-V Caught in the Wild
A mere two weeks after the General revealed the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V at the Detroit Auto Show, it's now been spotted for the first time in the wild at a CTS owners meet-up. Talk about drumming up some enthusiast support grass-roots style, right? The folks at Desert-Motors.com have the scoop with some shots of the Michigan manny-plated tester getting taken for a drive by a GM employee and showing off that big hump of a hood. That hump, as you'll remember from earlier this month, conceals that giant 6.2-liter supercharged V8 producing 550 horsepower and an equal amount of lb.-ft. of torque. We're waiting for our test unit to show up here at the Jalopnik Detroit HQ in the land of the ice and snow, where the midnight sun sets and hot springs flow just so we can see how the performance traction management works on the icy pavement out front. Detroit Auto Show: Cadillac CTS Coupe
Oh, GM! It was so cute to drop this bombshell on us. You heard about it first very early this morning, but now here it is, live and in the flesh—the Cadillac CTS Coupe. Even Bob Lutz himself was amazed that GM could keep this baby a secret, until... well, now, of course. The design for the vehicle is derived from the CTS sedan, and here's the enchanting backstory: Once the sedan was finished, the design team continued to press their luck, coming up with something so beautiful that we're not sure how GM can say no to production. Vehicle specifics were sketchy, but we did learn that the coupe can be adapted for a diesel engine. More » -

Detroit Auto Show: New Cadillac CTS-V Coming to Detroit, Officially
We've been salivating over the thought of the upcoming 2009 Cadillac CTS-V for a good long while now, and the press release we just posted on the Provoq concept unveiling is also confirming the Caddy that zooms will be taking the stage for all to see at Detroit. We almost can't wait to see the ultimate expression of art and science (and Corvette power train) in the flesh, but we're just going to have to wait. 2009 Cadillac CTS-V Uncovered!

But the looks are less important than what's under the hood. Will it be the normally aspirated LS7 V8 or will it be a supercharged 6.2-liter V8? Sources at the General are coy on the issue but the expectation is it'll still have upwards of 525 HP. GM Reports an 11% Decrease in Sales for November
It was a rough November for GM, with the company reporting total sales of 263,654 vehicles, representing a drop of 11% from November 2006. Though this can be partially blamed on a planned reduction in rental fleet sales, the big news is that the General is have a rough time selling trucks, with a 14.9% year-over-year decrease in light trucks/SUV's and a 15.5% in trucks. Hummer stumbled as well, with a 30.5% year-over-year decrease. In the silver lining department, the new CTS has seen a 15% increase in sales and the Chevy Malibu is up 40% compared to last year (pushing overall Chevy car sales up 15%). G'Day CTS! Cadillac Coming To Australia in 2008 *UPDATE* AUSSIE V12 In The Works

MT names Cadillac CTS Car of the Year, Needs Help Paying For Gas
Motor Trend has chosen the Cadillac CTS as its 2008 Car of the Year, attributing the win to sharp styling, great driving dynamics and luxury value — pretty much, the car rocked every category. For the General, it marks the first time in ten years that the company has taken home MT's top award. The Corvette won the Golden Calipers in 1998. Cadillac also has a special place in COTY history: Motor Trend's very first Car of the Year award went to Cadillac in 1949 when the award was given to an entire company, not just a single car. The CTS beat out the Audi A5/S5, Chevrolet Malibu, Dodge Grand Caravan, Honda Accord, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Scion xB and Volvo V70/XC70 finalists to earn the award. The testing consists of a barrage of track tests and a 28.5-mile road loop to explore everyday driving characteristics. And finally, in a sign that gas prices really are out of control, Texaco has become the official fuel of Motor Trend by supplying all of the gas for COTY testing.
