    Der Luftblasewagen: Volkswagen Reveals High-Roof Cross Golf

    Nope, it's not VW's long-awaited Tiguan small SUV; the photo above is the first we've seen of VW's upcoming GolfPlus Cross. Just like the Polo Cross before it, the Golf version will get higher ground clearance and most likely the company's Haldex AWD system, giving it light off-road capability (read: Subaru, circa 1979).     Spy Photos: New Volkswagen SUV

    It's almost two years since the first prototypes started showing up, and just a few months before the finished product is expected to be unveiled at the Paris show. Now, Germany's AutoBild has procured a shot of what looks like VW's new, small SUV-type thing, stemming from the Concept A the company showed off in Geneva. The new model, reportedly for 2007, will reportedly be the upcoming Crossgolf, which has heretofore only been seen in test-mule form sporting whacked-up bodies derived from the current Golf, causing mass confusion among the undercaffinated auto-blogging set.     Spy Photos: Cross Golf Spotted

    New spy shots of VW's newest car-based SUV have surfaced on 4Car, taken during final testing at Germany's Nurburgring. As the auto press suggested last month, the new Cross Golf — which will likely be built at the company's plant in Puebla, Mexico — is based on the Jetta, giving VW a competitor in the small-SUV derby currently heating up. It'll be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September. More »
