    Aptera Co-Founders Step Aside, All-Electric 2e Delayed Until 2010

Earlier this week former Tesla spokesman Daryl Siry, writing for Wired, reported small electric automaker Aptera's co-founders had been shoved out amid financial turmoil. Popular Mechanics quickly retorted back they were just "on vacation." Looks like Wired was right. More »

Aptera Type 1 Makes Movie Debut - Will Be Old Pro For Star Trek

Since Aptera may be getting too big for that whole Progressive Automotive X Prize thing after moving on to bigger and better things like being starring in Star Trek, Aptera is starting a newsletter of sorts so you can keep up as the car during it's rise to fame, and production. As such they've release this 'better know an Aptera Type 1' introduction video which touches on some of the details of this futuristic car. One of the funniest items has to be the air conditioning and how it runs all the time. Talk about cool and environmental friendly. Wait, what? [Aptera via OhGizmo!]

Aptera: Skip X Prize, Proceed Directly To Movie Set

The Aptera, which has been the poster child for the entire Automotive X Prize, is forgetting about trying to win that $10 million trophy and getting famous elsewhere—and that elsewhere is on the big screen. 300 MPG Electric Vehicle & Plug-In Hybrid for Under $30K

Aptera announced today that it would be producing both an all-electric and hybrid version of the 300 MPG prototype we told you about in July. The Aptera Typ-1 plug-in hybrid uses an all-electric drive train coupled to a small diesel gas engine and will achieve 300 MPG, while the all-electric version has a total range of 120 miles. The company claims that the car (categorized as a motorcycle by the Dept. of Transportation) in either form will be available for under $30,000! Aptera is Greek for "Wingless Flight," so let's hope this isn't a flight-of-fancy. The company will take a $500 reservation deposit if you live in Southern California (and has taken 400 already), with the rest of us SOL for now. Full press release below. More »
