And there it sat, for a week. But why?

The true answer may never be known, but watching a wrecker pull the water-logged remains of a once beautiful and fish free Ferrari F430 from the drink makes us pucker just a little bit. Aside from the tensed reaction, it makes us wonder why in the world you'd let your pride and joy sit at the bottom of the lake for a week. Why weren't the cops involved? What about his insurance?

These are all very obvious questions that just don't seem to be answered in this clip, so we invite you to formulate your own creative epic tale in the comments below. And please, have fun with it. (H/T To Eggwich!) [TheDirty]

The Wienermobile seems to be popping up quite a bit in recent weeks, this time venturing off course and inserting itself into a Wisconsin home while whistling 'Oh I wish I were an Os-car Mayer Wiener!'

The driver reportedly took a wrong turn down a dead-end street in Racine, Wisconsin, necessitating a U-turn. While attempting the maneuver, the driver mistakenly hit the gas pedal rather than the brakes, sending the storied Wienermobile into a nearby house. (H/T To Chad!)
The tanker impacted with such force that it exploded, collapsing the Nine Mile Rd overpass.

Details are sketchy at this point, but reports say that the tanker truck (not known at this time what exactly it was carrying) hit the top of the bridge causing the explosion. Several other semi trucks were traveling along side as well as a few passenger cars. At this time there are no reported deaths or injuries.

According to witnesses on the scene, the recently completed Nine Mile Rd overpass collapsed over the I-75 northbound lane directly after the explosion which occurred around 8:15 pm.
Husband's New Corvette Z06 Hit By Wife's Hyundai Genesis

A self-admitted worst day fell hard on a member of GenesisOwners after he and his wife picked up his brand-spankin-new Corvette Z06. Rain, traffic and non-attentive driving resulted in a bit of freeway carnage costing over $26,000.

The couple had owned the Hyundai Genesis for 9 months and the Z06 for only a few hours when all hell broke loose on a rainy Massachusetts freeway after leaving the Chevy dealership. A quick shift in traffic necessitated a quick reversal of speed from 60 mph down to 30 mph; a change his wife unfortunately did not notice. She barreled into the rear of the Z06 which then, under the slippery conditions, ran into the car next in line, resulting in just over $16,000 in damage to the Genesis and nearly $10,000 for the Z06.

Below are some of the highlights of the Z06 repair bill:

headlamps (HID) @ $992.21 a piece x 2
impact bar & energy asorber @ $765.49
front grille @ $144.07
fog lamp assy @ $168.15
radiator assy @ $549.05
air quality sensor @ $238.50
temp sensor @ $46.29
fan assy @ $425.18
condensor @ $342.58
hood @ $614.04
fenders @ $312.28 x 2
windshield @ $785.81

The $26,000 repair estimate doesn't include the car that the Z06 hit. Add it all up and this family's got one hell of an insurance rate spike coming their way. According to Zedbuyers the "morale of the story is don't let the wife follow you, and for god's sakes don't run the front of one of these things (Z06) into anything."

We'd listen to the man. Well, about the whole running the front of one of these things into anything. The sexist drivel? Not so much. [via GenesisOwners]

Ferrari Enzo Crashes During Rallye De Paris

Why do we even try to Save The Enzos? Yet another Ferrari Enzo's (the second in three months!) bitten the dust. This one, at least, went down respectably, competing and crashing in the Rally de Paris at Magny Cours.

This Ezno, S/N 132658, submitted itself as an example for why we need our "Save the Enzos" campaign during a heated lap last March on a cold day at the Magny Cours circuit. The Enzo's tires hadn't properly heated up to a velcro-like state, so when the over-zealous driver misjudged a corner, he ended up in this precarious position on top of the tire wall.

With two Enzos down this year, are we going to need to reprint t-shirts again? [via FerrariChat]
We'd say they demonstrated perfectly how not to treat your brand new EcoBoost-equipped Taurus SHO.
Word is, the SHO was involved in a three car pile up, likely by someone ogling the SHO's rear end and then simultaneously being hit by someone else with a desire for tasty Mandel Bread. The Piper Cherokee hit head on, damaging the front end of the Ute and throwing the rear passenger out of the vehicle. The plane and its two passengers weren't as lucky. After the impact the plane erupted in flames, trapping them inside. Fortunately for them a passerby made the brave decision to risk his own life in order to rescue the two. They were taken to the hospital with extensive injuries, but are reported to fully recover.

The driver of the Ute, Monica Braganca, had this to say about the incident:

"I was thinking we were going to die, not one ounce of me thought I was going to survive. It felt like in a movie. I couldn't say anything, no one was screaming. I just thought it was the end, I'd never be lucky enough to escape it.

The scary part was seeing the faces of the pilots looking straight at us."

Maybe he should stick to running.

According to his manager the sprinter is fine, though video from Sky News shows a bandage around his foot. Given the condition of the car he appears to have been lucky. Reports also mention a female passenger, so we're a little curious about what might have been going on inside the car to cause the quick Bolt to lose his attention.

A Jamaican man who witnessed the crash give Bolt a "10" for his landing of the BMW. An Australian woman who also saw the accident only gave it a "4" due to a previously unheard of technical efficiency. Hat Tip to Damian!

Video below.

The BBC report is unconfirmed, but they do know that as the black Suzuki drove through the crowd, fourteen people were injured and at least two people were killed before it finally came to a stop after hitting a fence surrounding a monument as the royal family watched in horror. No information has been released about the driver or what his true intentions were, but if the BBC is wrong and it is an accident, it's a mighty unfortunate one. The parade was held in celebration of the Queen's Day national holiday just north of Amsterdamn, in the city of Apeldoorn. No royals were hurt in the incident. We count 8 trucks in total getting a military-style flat top attempting to make their way under this overpass.

Doesn't anyone pay attention to their load height anymore? Thankfully, for purposes of our entertainment, they don't, as evidenced in this slightly moronic clip.

No injuries reported and there's more information inside.

Hot word on the trail is Travis Pastrana rolled violently in the last stage of the first day here at the 2009 100 Acre Wood Rally. No injuries were reported, but the car is toast. After this huge upset, Ken Block is currently poised for the win.

Keep an eye on our RallyAmerica tag for more updates as they roll in. We'll have a full photo gallery up tomorrow after the second and last day of racing wraps up. Even though our Travis Pastrana and Ken Block interviews are in the bag, we'll be chatting with Dave Mirra tomorrow. If any members of the Jalopnik Commentariat have a witty question to throw Dave's way, post it below and you may see it come to fruition.

Man Tragically Dragged 17 Miles Underneath Van

Early this morning a man in New York City was struck by an SUV while crossing the street. He was then hit by another van and dragged for 17 miles, dying along the way.

The red van, owned by Cancun Express Car Service, was spotted at a Coney Island with something hanging from the undercarriage. It turned out that the driver had run over the victim after the initial accident and dragged him underneath the van for 17 miles through the streets of Brooklyn. Unfortunately, the man died at some point along the way. The event currently isn't being seen as a criminal case because the driver was unaware he had a body lodged under his van.

Our condolences go out to the victim's family and we offer this word of advice to all of you: Please be aware of what you drive over and if your car suddenly seems to be acting strange, please stop and check it out. There's a potential that the strange sound you hear is something way more serious than you'd ever imagine.
(Thanks For The Tip Matthew!)

After eluding numerous spike strips and attempts by a Dodge Charger Police Edition to run them off the road, the brothers behind the helm of this Mitsubishi Galant raced off the Oklahoma highway and into a Chili's parking lot. Once inside the parking lot they were easy pickin's for the state troopers, slamming into a parked car. What compelled them to race at speeds above 130 MPH to get to a Chili's? Was it a Mitsubishi Galant GTZ? According to reports, police found some Mary Jane in the car, which leads us to believe a plate of Southwestern Egg Rolls may be the real culprit.
Here we have pictures from WreckedExotics of a Tesla Roadster that got stuffed by one of the company’s executives during a demo drive in Southern France. It’s looks like the sales director was taking a potential customer for a bit of a hooning session, then, whilst attempting to navigate a wet turn in excess of 100 MPH, lost control of the vehicle and spun off the road. The ex-potential customer was thrown clear of the car, and neither person suffered serious injuries. Think the director will get fired by a blog post? Thanks for the tip, Francesco!

Aussie Bisects Ferrari 360 Modena Front End With Pole, Miraculously Survives

A couple of knuckleheads in the Australian town of Walkerville managed to wrap the front third of a Ferrari 360 Modena quite effectively around a telephone pole and walk away with only minor injuries. Eyewitnesses report the car was speeding around the local roads (surprise!) and as you can see, the eventual accident was pretty incredible, with the pole intruding to the point where it takes the space normally occupied by, say, the shifter over the transmission tunnel. With yesterday's Lamborghini Gallardo sliced in half width-wise and now a Ferrari split down the middle, it's like learning automotive biology by supercar dissection around here. If you've never been to the little burg, the scene of this crash isn't surrounded by any curves, hills, trees, blocked views...or anything, really — just a couple of posts protecting a fire hydrant.
This Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Is The Most Expensive Crash Ever... In India

Indian Autos Blog, the lovers of all things automotive on the subcontinent, claim the smash-up of this Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 was the most expensive car crash in India's history. Whether or not that's true isn't really clear, but we're more interested in determining the "why." Perhaps the driver was just trying to imitate Bruce Wayne's intentional bull bashing. Then again, maybe he just lost control due to the bright yellow paint's magnetic traits. (Hat tip to Raja!)

The End Of The Douchiness Is At Hand, Now Vote For The Best "SLR Guy" Entry!

Well, this crazy mixed up SLR Guy photo chopping game has been a laugh riot, but all good things must come to an end. After a marathon gallery and a follow up with all the late entries, we've finally cut off submissions and it's time for you to make the final choice. Today we pitch our fifteen favorites and we'll let you vote on who takes home the fabulous prizes. That's right we said fifteen, hey, you try narrowing it down to only ten when you get well over three hundred entries — some of them were just too good to leave out. So without further ado, and in no particular order, the SLR Guy greatest hits.

Any time Jar-Jar "Douche" Binks shows up in a 'shop contest, it's practically a shoo-in for funny, we liked it because it tells you all need to know about the character in one expression.

We actually think George Lucas and Steven Spielberg should consider changing the name of their latest effort and digitally "enhancing" it with the SLR Guy character. It would probably end up better than what we saw in theaters.

This one takes advantage of the big Top Gear USA news and how we didn't really notice how Tanner Foust looks shockingly like SLR Guy. We got a pile of swag from Ford at the Ford Racing Invitational, and we're more than happy to pass it along. How about a limited edition, 1 of 500, commemorative 2005 Grand-Am Champion Ford Mustang FR500C model, new in box for first place. Second will be getting a very nice Ford Racing ball cap and third will get a selection of three Ford Racing beverage cozies. See the gallery below. Okay kids, that's it, vote early and vote often, and congratulations to the finalists.

Boulder-Size Chunk Of My Manhattan Apartment Building Falls On BMW 3-Series, Reminds Me To Make Sure Life Insurance Paid Up

So I'm prepared for anything when I leave the apartment building I call my New York home (as opposed to my Detroit home, which is in Royal Oak). I can deal with the rats of unusual sizes, cockroaches as big as my fist and even the occasional manhole explosion. But I'm beginning to have a problem with the random shit raining down from the heavens every few days in New York City. First it was just one crane. Sure, it took out an entire building, but whatever, accidents happen. Then it was a second crane — only two dead — that's not too bad. Now, it's a giant chunk of the building I live in falling down on top of a BMW 3-Series parked out front. Like I said, I can deal with a lot. But when the buildings start attacking defenseless cars outside my pad, it's time to start reevaluating the ability of a city to regulate itself and its construction business. Although they did leave a nice note on the car, we're still totally telling the board to never use East Coast Restoration again.

Peugeot 908 HDI Smacks Wall @ 170 MPH Ahead Of Le Mans 2008

Peugeot has been making big waves in the world of Le Mans Prototype racing this year with their new-from-stem-to-stern Peugeot 908 HDI. The cars have been running well in the pre-test for this year's race at Le Mans, but as driver Marc Gene shows us here, accidents happen — at 170 MPH and into a wall. Apparently the car's aerodynamics aren't totally settled yet, as we see the 908 totally lose it in a corner and catch air, flying with the greatest of ease into the barrier. Thankfully, Gene managed to get out of this one with only a dislocated toe, but he should probably be thanking his respective deity that this wasn't worse. We've just received news from the Gulf 39 team on the identity of their teammate behind the wheel of the Volvo 242 Turbo along with a little more detail on the preliminary on-scene investigation by the California Highway Patrol. We'd indicated to the team we only wanted to know the name after they'd had the opportunity to notify family, so although we're assuming that's been done already, we still wanted to make sure to include the name after the fold of this post to make certain it's been taken care of already. With that in mind — the short, but full, e-mail after the jump.

The CHP reported that the car was in working order. No mechanical failure seems to have appeared...the impact was estimated at 50 to 60 MPH...Cort Summerfield was 46 years old (02/01/1961)

Again, our deepest sympathies go out to Mr. Summerfield's family, friends and teammates and we fervently hope the accident doesn't harm what until this point was one of the great examples of grassroots motorsports in action.

Tragic Death Reported At Altamont 24 Hours of LeMons Race

We all saw the report from Murilee just under an hour ago, and now we're hearing from numerous sources that the 24 Hours of LeMons race has taken a tragic turn. Our sources tell us the driver of the Volvo 242 Turbo in Gulf Oil colors (pictured above before the race, and below from the Thunderhill LeMons race last year) has died. We're waiting on more as we hear it from team V8olvo as well as others at the Altamont 24 Hours of LeMons. If this news ends up being true, our prayers, thoughts and well-wishes go out to the family, friends and teammates. All we do know for sure is that racing has been halted for the day and will supposedly resume again tomorrow. Although if it is true, that may just be wishful thinking. Updated below the jump — and with new photos below thanks to Mark Pitts.

UPDATE: If you remember, the 242 Turbo was actually the inspiration for the choice of the V8olvo.

UPDATE #2: The V8olvo happened to be right behind the 242 Turbo when it crashed. We're told it went into the wall at speed which made our team think perhaps something happened before the crash to the driver.

UPDATE #3: We have confirmation from a source with close ties to the team that there was indeed a fatality. We are withholding the name and other identifying characteristics until we're given the OK from the family and team.

UPDATE #4: The folks over at Bryan's Message Board have been chronicling the adventures of "Team Porcubimmer" — as such, a few of the forum fan-boys (and girls) were in the stands at Altamont. Here's one of their recaps of what happened:

he shot forward and sped up right before the turn, and went head on into the wall. didn't break, didn't turn...i didn't see anyone bump him. best guess is that he passed out and his foot just acted like a lead weight... but that's just based on the fact that he blasted forward so suddenly and made a beeline for the wall...took them forever to get a fucking tarp up. i was up in the stands with my dad, and he was really upset that it took them so long to do that.

Yes, of course it's speculation — but the rest of the account helps provide more verification for what we've been told was seen out at the track.

UPDATE #5: We've just received the following e-mail from a team member of the victim of the crash with his name, age and a little bit more detail on what may have happened:

The CHP reported that the car was in working order. No mechanical failure seems to have appeared...the impact was estimated at 50 to 60 MPH...Cort Summerfield was 46 years old (02/01/1961)

It's happened time and time again, and it will continue to happen until the end of days. A jumpy teenager has a crazy idea, perhaps induced by peer-pressure, to sneak the old man's car out for a late night joyride. As Jalops, we've likely all put ourselves in such a situation. In retrospect, we're able to look back at it as a right of passage into <s>man</s>hoonhood, but for this Aussie boy, it may be a while before he will fully appreciate the accomplishment of crashing his dad's Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale, though never being able to see daylight may accelerate that process.
Who knew that sleazy Swede Stefan Eriksson was starting such a popular trend when he destroyed his Ferrari Enzo? Our main man from the north lands, JanTheMan, sent us this video of one Swedish gentleman putting his Ferrari F50 in the ditch. How did this happen? According to JanTheMan:

This weekend it has been a major sport car show in Malmö in south of Sweden. Anyway. This tape was recorded after closing time when a Ferrari F50 was followed by some young twats in Beemers, Ricers and Porsches. SWEDES ARE HEARBY BANNED TO DRIVE ONE OF A KIND FERRARIS."

We'd also point out that Eddie Griffith is really Swedish. For those about to smash, we salute you. (accident about four minutes into "twat driving") [Bilsport.se]

Porsche 911 GT3 Rolls, Literally, Around Corner At The 'Ring

Individuals like driving around the Nürburgring because of the challenge it presents. For instance, you might be coming around a corner with a bit too much speed, correct, then correct again and then end up tires-up waiting for the 100€ wrecker while a couple of smartass mates make quips about how much the different parts of your 911 GT3 will go for on eBay. In this case, the challenge is explaining to your insurance agency what happened. Maybe this unlikely driver can tell them he/she was trying to catch Sabine Schmidt. That's legit, right?
The horrible drag racing incident in Selmer, Tennessee at the "Cars and Kids" event last June has taken yet another tragic turn, with charges now being filed against the driver involved. The June incident occurred when Aussie drag racer Troy Critchley, while performing a burnout in his top fuel dragster, veered into a crowd, resulting in six dead and eighteen injured.

The AP is now reporting Critchley is being indicted on six counts of vehicular homicide due to recklessness, as well as 22 counts of reckless aggravated assault. The case is expected to go to trial in November. [AP via Edmunds Inside Line]

Chinese Man Crashes Truck, Buys Helmet, Keeps Driving

Here's a man who was just being frugal and look what it got him, guff from the Chinese Police. Mr. Zhao, a Wuhan City man, was out dutifully delivering vegetables to the Hunan Province when he was involved in a traffic accident. The front end of the truck suffered major damage, but the truck seemed to operate fine. So he did what anyone would, bought a helmet with a visor and kept on truckin'. Leave it to the coppers to pull over a dedicated worker of the People's Republic and make him repair his perfectly functional truck. Well, that's assuming he's alive, as we think he is. Hard to tell just from these pictures if the frame's strength (or lack thereof) was what kept him dangling and saved him or what folded and put him in danger in the first place. We wonder, what would've happened in a Honda Ridgeline? Though if you were hanging in this situation, you'd probably be having other thoughts.
