new audi a8
Eschewing trite
teaser images, Audi has instead given us some actual eye candy, providing official design sketches of four upcoming models: the
A5 Cabrio and Sportback, the all-new
2010 A7 four-door coupe and the 2011
A8 sedan. While the A5 Cabrio looks pretty much like a topless A5 coupe, the
A5 Sportback is unique for not looking at all like a traditional sportback model, instead bearing resemblance to notchbacks of yore. The A7 brings TT-esque styling to the burgeoning four-door coupe market, while the revised A8, at least in sketch form, looks just about tough as hell. Take a look for yourself in the gallery below.

Someone in the know over at
Audiblog.nl has spilled forth a detailed list of all Audi brand engines for all models through the 2011 calender year — and the release dates for new models. In addition to the big engine news, the leakers claim that we'll be seeing the rumored Audi A7 model in June of 2010, as well as an S7 version following that fall,
and a return to form for the next generation Audi S4. Look below for a detail look at what's coming up for Audi in the next three years.

spy photos

Looks like the
Audi A5 isn't the only one stirring things up lately.
WorldCarFans has posted spy photos they claim to be the long (
looooong) rumored Audi A7. Their spy shots look like a test mule wearing an A6 suit that's a little bit too small but we still like what we see. The track is stretched a bit as is the wheelbase, the interior is very reminiscent of the A8 but sports a revised dash and *gasp*, a cloth interior. That probably won't be making it into US production models (whenever that happens).

gossip
AutoBild is reporting (in German) that in calendar week 13 of 2009, Audi has a new model in the werks dubbed the A5 Sportback. Little is known about this possible new offering, but Autobild is going against the prevailing wisdom that the Sportback will be a wagon-like offering, saying it will compete in the emerging swoopy sedan category currently populated by the
Mercedes CLS, pending
Porsche Panamera and recently revealed
Volkswagen Passat CC. While we're on the subject of the Passat CC, if this speculation is accurate, we're thinking this is V-Dub doing it's platform prostitution best with that new curvy roof line. We'll keep our ear to the ground for more details. [

A few months back we told you about the
Abt AS5 which is a tweaked version of Audi's 3.0-liter TDI A5. Well guess what? They went even harder. Horsepower, originally up from 240 to 272 hp, is now an even 300 ponies. But the real news is the torque. Are you sitting down? Yeah? OK: 442 ft-lbs. of the stuff. From a 3.0-liter engine!! Wasn't it not long ago that heavy duty one-ton pickups stonked way,
way less twist? All that torque shows up at 2,400 rpm, 60 mph happens in 5.3 seconds on the car's way to a 164 mph top speed. It always bears repeating: Americans buy horsepower but drive torque. Can we get some decent diesels over here, or what? [

new cars
The folks at
CNet's
Crave blog were out driving an Infiniti G37 on the curve-tastic streets of San Francisco when they came across a brand-spanking new, and as-of-this-moment unavailable, Audi A5. Even more strange was the car was branded with white lettering declaring that it runs on E85 and that it was powered by the 2-liter turbocharged Euro engine instead of the 3.2-liter V6 it'll have when it comes stateside next year. 5 doors are better than 2
We love how Audi just can't stop themselves with the new models. 18 new ones in the coming years is the official company line. Here's one: Looking like the unholy offspring of an A3, a Dodge Magnum and a Mercedes-Benz CLS, somehow this rendering S5 looks pretty good to our wagon loving eyes. Sure, the A4 Avant and A6 Avants are fine cars. No, to our knowledge their will not be an A5 sedan. Why then an A5
station wagon Sportback? Meine BrĂ¼der, why the hell not? The Sportback should be wider, taller and more slanty than the A4 Avant. Oh, and hopefully they'll
figure out the damn battery for a US bound RS5. [

abtly speaking
Audi tuning shop Abt sent word of a new tweaker package for Audi's new A5. It's the AS5, and it includes such add-ons as a front skirt with a grid element that suggests the single-frame grill, side intake gills, rear spoiler and the rear skirt insert. The 3.0 TDI engine, Abt says, gets a significant "power treatment" that ups power from 240 hp to 272 hp — with an extra Abt turbocharger, power reaches 300. Underneath is an adjustable sports suspension, Abt brake system with a disc diameter of 380 millimeters and — in the rendering — the company's AR wheel, available for the A5 in the sizes from 18 to 20 inch. Gilding the lily, or painting the fence? You make the call.

new york auto show
The Audi with Italian passion in red was unveiled to a well dressed New York crowd last night. The photographer for the new ad campaign explained why square digital pixels could not capture the true curvy detail of the S5, and why she used film instead. Famous chef David Bouley served up shot glasses half full of cream of mushroom soup. Impossibly tall waitresses served up some manner of organic cocktail which leveraged key core competency moving into the gala evening. We left and got a New York strip, and broccoli rabe.

Our new buddy Zack caught sight of this jet-black Audi A5 on
Route 118 in Simi Valley, California. Maybe it's on its way back from a weekend visiting the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, or perhaps the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza where its pilot showed up too early to take in the Shields & Yarnell Reunion Tour. Maybe he even stopped by the Stagecoach Inn Museum to eyeball its collection of adobe huts. Sounds like a hell of a weekend for whichever earlybird got a ride in Audi's new coupe. Still, however the weekend passed, the A5 does look simply smashing in black.
