Nissan execs have apparently told the reporters over at
Edmunds Straightline that the
2009 Nissan GT-R will be the first and last GT-R with the "launch control" system as the company is tired of dealing with the
warranty nightmares that have convinced people they can't do
GT-R donuts. Said one high-ranking exec:
It's gone," he said when asked if launch control would return in 2010. "We just don't want to deal with the warranty nightmare anymore

hoon of the day
So now that we've learned how turning off the VDC to use the lanuch control on the 2009 Nissan GT-R can
void its warranty, we're wondering if that would also include hoonage like this smoke session. Lucky for this guy, he
"bought it brand new just 2 hav fun and burn rubber in. warranty dosent matter and money is not the crteria here!!!! if u know wat im sayin!!" Word. Video after the jump.

Nissan has instructed its Japanese dealers to temporarily halt taking orders for the
Nissan GT-R, declining to offer an explanation or state when order-taking can resume. So far, the order halt only applies to home-market dealers, leading to speculation that there's an issue with a Japan-only component or subsystem. More below.

Someone claiming to own a
Nissan GT-R has proclaimed on the North American GT-R Owners Club forums (NAGTROC) that his GT-R's transmission has broken after multiple uses of the vehicle's launch control function. The owner says that when the vehicle was then brought to the Nissan service center, where he was told the destroyed transmission would not be covered under warranty due to the car being driven too often with the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) shut off.

Messing with the
Nissan GT-R is risky. Even though
you're not supposed to, sometimes the results can be quite
tasteful. The problem, though, is when something like this happens. Someone decided it would be a good idea to wrap their GT-R in black and bright-green matte-finish vinyl. As if that wasn't bad enough, a set of gaudy 22" rims have also been bolted on. The Zele carbon fiber body kit wouldn't have been terrible by itself, but it just adds to the mess here. Sure, the car probably has a bit more oomph thanks to an HKS boost controller and a
Mine's exhaust, but it still can't outrun its ugly. Surprisingly, the car does not belong to Brian O'Conner, Paul Walker's character in
The Fast And The Furious. Remember his Eclipse? We've included it in the gallery below...see if you can figure out which car is which.

The war of words between Nissan and Porsche over Nurburgring lap times continues. Today Nissan officially responded to
Porsche's statement last month that they were unable to get within 25 seconds of the
Nissan GT-R's claimed fastest 'Ring time, leading Porsche to claim Nissan had used a ringer with race tires. Seems that Nissan still has the tires they used, however, and they're inviting Porsche to check them out — along with video of the run shot by a Japanese magazine. To top it off, Nissan states the GT-R used, rather than being a ringer, was actually hampered by 110 pounds of extra telemetrics. So what gives? Nissan has inferred Porsche must have neither properly run-in the Nissan nor learned how to extract the most from the Japanese supercar's AWD system. Choice Nissan quotes after the jump.

Uh-oh, more folks
messing with Godzilla. At first we liked the way the dry carbon fiber hood and trunk on this
Nissan GT-R looked compared to the more popular glossy stuff. But the more we stare at it, the more we think it looks kinda cheap. We're reminded of guys driving around in Honda Civic coupes with carbon fiber hoods that were once glossy but have since faded in the sun. That's not good considering these parts from Seibon are so new they're not even out yet. Perhaps it's just that the rest of the car doesn't match the dry carbon fiber?

We know you're
not supposed to mess with the
Nissan GT-R but despite the possible adverse affects on the aerodynamics, this clean-look GT-R shows just how slick Godzilla looks when he shaves his back. Obviously the large rear wing of has been removed, but to smooth things out even more, the rear reflectors have been tinted black and the Nissan badge in back has been removed. The owner also apparently decided to throw on an aftermarket exhaust from performance tuner
Mine's, and a set of BBS LM-DBK wheels, just for good measure. [via
