Have you ever wondered what happens to all those old cars which turn into neither steel scrap nor gleaming restorations? Cars which simply fall out of the life cycle of cars and fade away. Alícia Rius has. She’s a photographer from Spain who describes her work as a “search for hidden treasures”. Her latest project, From the backseat of my car, shows the view out of cars which have passed the point of no return between car life and car death, not quite cars anymore but not quite landscape yet, a place where wildflowers and dashboard buttons mingle. More »

At something shy of five minutes, Parigot, a French-made animated film, would be a tough sell for a car chase movie. For one thing, there are no cars in it, only a <strike>bicycle powered by an outboard engine</strike> vintage motorcycle. But what’s lost in horsepower is more than made up for with sheer speed, disconcerting avian swarms and a breathtaking, mega-Euro cityscape. Reverse Graffiti, sometimes known as "grime-writing," involves erasing away the soot, dirt, and pollution on a surface to create an image in the negative. Artist Moose Curtis and Fotorater founder Marc Cameron teamed up on commission from the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin and set four eco-cars in reverse on the walls of Munich. More »

This is serious wrought iron, even more serious for the village of Dédestapolcsány in northeast Hungary, an area known for its selective distribution of wealth. Some of the things-on-wheels that people drove around the desert were actually quite artistic and inspired! This fire-shooting steampunk octopus, complete with moving arms and eyes that pop out, is one such example. Dutch artist and car nut Diederick Kraaijeveld creates ridiculously accurate photorealistic mosaics out of salvaged wood that's already painted (he doesn't paint them). He also does household items (and Steve McQueen), but his cars are spectacular. More »

If you like our Formula One race reports in Crayola, you’ll love the crayon-and-marker art of Miha Furlan, who applies mad drawing skills to kindergarten art sets to produce drawings of race cars and supercars. The 28-year-old Slovenian’s work is just plain gorgeous, and he’s not lacking in taste when it comes to picking his subjects: he’s got Daytonas, Chaparrals, Alfa Romeos, vintage F1 cars, and even the BMW 3.0 CSL. More »
