Mercedes has finally revealed the new 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series. Based on the recently revised Benz SL65 AMG, the newly blackened version will now be Mercedes most powerful production car ever. With the finely tuned and double-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 under the hood, power is up to an astonishing 661 HP with torque remaining at the already staggering 738 lb-ft. Expected to be priced in the range of $320,000, the SL65 AMG Black Series hits the Benz lineup as an indirect replacement for the McLaren-built SLR coupe. Want one? They won't be easy to find.

As we've said before, Mercedes in-house speed shop AMG adopted a multitiered approach to tuning. At the second tier from the top Signature series, the Black Series includes uprated and spec'd out versions of AMG models. We've already seen the CLK63 Black Series, which sports a 500-horsepower version of the AMG 6.2-liter V8 (dubbed 6.3 for historical purposes). Now, a prototype of what looks to be the SL-Class AMG Black Series model was recently spotted in preparation for Nürburgring runs this week. The Black Series cars are lightened by way of carbon fiber replacement panels and made nimbler by way of an adjustable suspension with modified spring links, wheel carriers, thrust arms and camber and torque struts. Those adorable scamps at Autoblog.nl say the sekrit mystery AMG set to debut in New York is the CLK63 Black Series. That is, a pure-sports version of the CLK63 introduced last year. A reel of new spy footage featuring the AMG CLK 63 Black Series, which had been mistakenly ID'd as a new DTM model earlier this year, has surfaced on Dutch site Autovisie. Caught tearing the N rburgring a new offramp, the CLK will likely be among the first in a spate of AMG models due from the Benz division's new design studio. The 530-hp screamer in Black Series trim will be spec'd up from the base AMG models with a larger wheel-and-tire package, wider track, lower suspension and modified bodywork including panels of carbon fiber and reinforced plastic. It's also expected to get from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds, or 0.7 seconds faster than the regular CLK 63 AMG. World Car Fans sets the record straight. Yesterday, word was this spy shot represented the facelifted Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM. Now, spies say it's not the DTM, but one of the AMG boys' new special edition models — the CLK 63 Black Series. If you'll recall, the Black Series will represent the division's uprated and otherwise tricked-out versions of traditional AMG models. (The SLK 55 AMG Black Series is the first of such models to arrive.) This CLK 63 will likely have a 530-hp version of the 6.2-liter V8, with 19" wheels, AMG adjustable sports suspension, composite brakes, and other such accoutrements. No word on the next DTM model, but we're expecting to have to wait until Frankfurt 2007 to see it. More »
