When you're a brand all about exclusivity, what do you do when your flagship hits the end of a very exclusive run? Well, if you're Bentley, you take the last 150 cars and make them just a bit more exclusive. That's what the brand with the big "B" badge has done with this — the Bentley Arnage Final Series, an uber-luxe sedan we're told will combine the performance of the T with the refinement of the R and is coming to the Paris Auto Show next month. The "Final Series," we're told, will be "the ultimate expression of class-leading luxury and effortless power." Although the engine, transmission, chassis and running gear of the Arnage Final Series are identical to those found in the Bentley Arnage T — the same all-aluminum V8 producing an astonishing 500 bhp and 738 lb-ft of torque — there's some very unique features in the "Final Series." For instance on the exterior, there's the 20-inch five-spoke alloys, a retractable "Flying B" hood mascot and "Final Series" badging, among other styling changes. More often associated with acres of Scotland's finest leather and enough walnut inlay to deforest most of France, Bentley is nevertheless serious about cleaning up its act. In an interview with Autocar, Bentley chief Franz-Josef Paefgan said, ""If we have to reduce fuel consumption by 20 per cent, we will do it. But we have to satisfy our customers and build a proper Bentley." The magazine reports that plans could be underway to build a hybrid version of the company's venerable 6.75-liter V8. "Meeting the 2009 EU5 emissions limits with this V8 can be done," Paefgan added. "We are now working on the proposed EU6 limits for 2013-15. All our engineers want to keep the engine alive." More »

From the "if it exists it will be done" department, the UK's Autocar reports Bentley's worked up an Arnage powered by the Bugatti Veyron's quad-turbo W16. Just a prototype for now, the 987-hp Bentgatti is the reported brainchild of Bentley chief (and Bugatti president) Franz-Josef Paefgen. No word on whether it's merely a show car or if Bentley has a production plan in place, though as Autocar points out, a W16 Arnage would be the ultimate luxury car and trophy purchase for the world's viscounts and bond traders. Responding to the shot fired by Rolls-Royce with its 101EX concept coupe, Bentley will show a design study of an Arnage-based coupe at the Geneva show next year, Automotive News is reporting today. The concept car, dubbed "Havana," could hearken a flagship two-door, which would be a fixed-roof counterpart to the new convertible. With all the rumors of new entries all over the ultra-luxury spectrum, we wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this one ended up bombing down a Corniche near you in a couple of years. – Mike Spinelli More »

Never mind that Bentley's Arnage T is the Fatty Arbuckle of the automotive world (minus the Coke bottle), it's still Bent's flagship, retrograde as it is, and improvements must be made as a matter of course. The company says the 2007 T will get a power upgrade to the great thumping beast of a turbo V8, to 500 horsepower, with a new ZF six-speed autobox to improve fuel economy (stop snickering, Pennyworth). Lesser models, R and RL will get a 50-hp boost to 450 hp. And in a nod to the 21st century, the new models are getting Bluetooth. Yep, it's most definitely the end of the world. More »

Whoops, we meant special edition. At Geneva this year, Bentley plans to party like it's 1946, with two 60th anniversary models, the Diamond Series Continental GT coup-ay and Arnage saloon. The production run of the two Corniche cruisers will reflect their relative exclusivity — 400 Continentals GT and 60 Arnag s — each with mildly upgraded interiors, wheels and paint. Think of them as the perfect subjects of a BBC program titled "Please, If You Wouldn't Mind Terribly, If You Might Be So Kind As to Pimp My Conveyence, Thank You Ever So Much." More »
