Those patent drawings of the Jaguar F-Type Coupe that showed up on the Internet are mighty sexy, aren't they? But now there's some doubt as to whether those drawings show the upcoming coupe or just its very similar concept from 2011.
Many people pointed out how much the coupe's patent drawings — first reported this week by Germany's Auto Motor und Sport — looked an awful lot like the C-X16 concept from a few years ago. That concept did see production as the F-Type, but only as a convertible for the time being.
Then Car and Driver's Justin Berkowitz pointed out on Twitter that the patent pics were filed shortly before the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show where the C-X16 debuted. And he's right — the patent filings themselves do in fact reveal that these exact drawings were filed in August 2011.
So those drawings do not appear to be for the production coupe. But considering how similar the F-Type roadster was to the concept, I think it's fair to say that they do give us a great idea of what the coupe will look like when it's released next year. Guess we'll have to wait until then.
