Construction on the Michael Schumacher World Champion Tower in Abu Dhabi is scheduled to commence later this year. It will be the first of seven towers named after the seven-time Formula One World Champion. Now we don’t know about you, but when we think about Schumi, not only do we think “luxury residential skyscraper,” but we also think “automatic yacht parking.” Luckily the designers of the new super-scraper have our vision as the Tower will feature that, in addition to private wharfs for its first floor residents. A horrific crash involving at least 200 vehicles occurred this morning on the highway between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. At least six people were killed, it's unclear how many were injured. Several of the vehicles caught fire after the series of crashes, which are being attributed to the heavy fog. Speaking to the Gulf News, a German crash victim said, "The accident was a combination of fog and people using their hazard lights. After the crash I looked behind and people were yelling and screaming." Due to the dense fog, helicopters were unable to evacuate victims for two and a half hours. Remember the guy from the United Arab Emirates that paid $6.8M for a vanity plate? His bid for a plate reading "5" set the world record. But that's kid's stuff. A new record has been set by UAE businessman Saeed Abdul Ghafour Khouri, who made a bid of $14,300,000 for Abu Dhabi license plate "1." If it were our money, we'd go for a fleet of a dozen Bugatti Veyrons and still have some scratch leftover to gold-plate all our drinking straws. However, in the UAE a low number plate is a serious status symbol. Apparently, if you have a number low enough, you've basically got immunity to do whatever you want. If you're planning a trip to the 2009 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, you'll run right into the Ferrari Theme Park. At least, that's the plan. Ferrari is breaking ground on the park we told you about nearly two years ago. Truly the happiest place on earth for tifosi and related prancing-horse devotees, the park will feature driving-instruction courses for children and adults, a full-on Six Flags style amusement joint, high-tech theatres and a racing circuit that'll host the coming F1 addenda. The park is being built on a 4,200-acre plot on one of the largest natural islands in the emirate, Yas, which lies along the Persian Gulf, opposite Iran. We'd imagine it'll be the cornerstone for Ferrari's next big growth spurt. Call it the second happiest place on earth. More »

When I was a kid, we had these huge sand dunes up north near Traverse City called the Great Sleeping Bear sand dunes. As a young whipper-snapper, I would play on those huge hills of sand wishing I were conquering the in my very own Power Wheels Jeep. Unfortunately, Michigan's DNR didn't allow any type of motorized vehicles to play in the sand there — and my parents were never going to buy me one of them kiddie death-traps anyway. It seems that PGA card-holders Paul Casey and Sergio Garcia apparently no longer need to ask their mom's for the ok to play in the dunes. The two spent today reminiscing about lost childhoods without Power Wheels while playing with a Hummer H2, a Toyota FJ Cruiser and some ATV's in the sand sea north of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates after Casey's win yesterday in the 2007 Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. And as you can see from the picture gallery below, the two played around like childhood BFF's. The Ferrari(TM) marketing machine churns on ahead of the company's public offering set for who knows when (Buy, Mortimer! Buy!). The Fiat Group brand is adding a theme park in Arab emirate Abu Dhabi to its line of licensed products. The park, which will reportedly be open by 2008, will house a racetrack and museum as well as rides and other attractions (prancing horses?), including hotels, retail and big-ticket residences.
