When is a highway not a highway? I don't have anything clever to follow that up but this highway is broken yo.

So far I've spoken about a co-driver's process when preparing for a rally. But what about an aspiring co-driver? How do you get from standing roadside watching to riding along in the silly seat? I figured I'd take the moment to talk about getting started in rally. I'm going to talk a bit about my path to the right…
The French! They're so lazy. They don't want to work, they just want to lay around in their berets eating cheese, drinking wine, making love and losing wars. Not like us hard work-loving Americans. At least, that's the perception that tire company CEO Maurice Taylor has of the French. And he's not afraid to say it.
Pretty new Macca, huh? Here’s an old one, the M20 sports prototype from the waning days of McLaren’s dominance of Can-Am. Fiberglass and aluminum, crazy velocity stacks, F1- and Can-Am champion Denny Hulme at the wheel, who managed to beat the turbocharged Porsche 917’s in the early races of the 1972 season but lost…
It's the end of the line for the Tupolev Tu-154. This triple-engined medium-range narrow-body airliner was the workhorse of the Soviet Union, but managed to stay afloat long after the fall of communism. While noise regulations banned it from Western Europe quite a while ago, experts say that Tu-154s will serve the…
What would you do if a celebrity asked you to document their passion for anything that rolls, explodes and makes noise?
One man has blown up my twitter in the past 48 hours. That man is fellow Jalopnian, James F Johnson Jr. (@dmidwestredneck), and he desperately wants me to race in Robby Gordon’s new Stadium Super Truck Series. And, if you look at the kickass video below, it isn’t hard to see why.
The war of words between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the New York Times dominated the world of automotive news last week after one of the paper's reporters failed at his D.C. to Boston drive in a Model S and Musk responded by calling the story "fake." Now Musk says he wants to "bury the hatchet and move on." Or, in other…
São Paulo’s Interlagos is a massively better racetrack than neighboring Rio de Janeiro’s Jacarepaguá but it has its downside: you can’t take photos of Formula One cars, like Alain Prost’s McLaren MP4/4, against the blue skies and green hills of Guanabara Bay. Life’s little choices. (Photo by Simon Bruty/Getty Images)
Earlier today we saw a car that was supposedly Will.I.Am's brand-new, totally custom ride. We have confirmed that this is Will's car, but it hasn't been "built from scratch." The car is actually a 1958 VW Beetle that has been modified beyond recognition. The build started in 2009. It still isn't really done. And that's because Will.I.Am took it to two shops, had absolutely no idea what he wanted, and no clue about what it takes to build a car.
A few weeks ago, TRG-AMR North America hit the track for the first time in their Aston Martin GT4 in the GS Class of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
I've known crows were smart for a long time (one managed to con me out of my SS# and is still making Discover card charges to this day) but I didn't realize how much they liked to play in the snow.
Melbourne police heard reports of a car hooning it up with burnouts and donuts at a supermarket parking lot. When an officer arrives he finds the car wrecked, but it’s cool you guys, the driver is just ‘waiting for his mate.’
Here in the USA, you can almost always spot an Indian product. This is very different than Chinese products, which are so numerous and varied as to be anonymous. But Indian products you find in the America, they almost all have this artisan/handmade quality. Whether it's jewelry in bins at Anthropologie or manhole covers or a pair of scissors, the hallmark of Indian exports is that they at least feel like someone made them by hand. And that goes for much of the automotive culture as well.
Breaking news from Twitter this afternoon: Fisker Automotive thinks you could stand to lose a few pounds, and they can show you how in just a few short weeks.
