The 2010 Saab 9-4X may have already been partially revealed, but The Car Connection has gotten their hands on a set of photos of the new Saab that are thankfully much larger and clearer, lacking the bra found on previous spy shots. Based on the same platform underpinning the new Cadillac SRX, the Saab will be a step up in the SUV department from the Swedish brand's Trailblazer-cum-Saab adventures. More »

The 2010 Saab 9-4X was caught running round the Nurburgring today just like the big boys and while we're pretty certain the Audi (both of them) is (are) a pinch quicker, the 9-4X is definitely more economical. Word on the street is the new 9-4X will not only be replacing the porky Oldsmobile Bravada Saab 9-7X, but will be doing it with some form of "biopower" like the original show car. The crossover of Trollhattan is expected to be on sale some time in 2009 for the 2010 model year, but that didn't stop our KGP spies from spittin' words about this one — which you can read after the break. As part of its Ethanol extravaganza, GM showed off its Saab 9-4x BioPower concept, a preview of a small Saab SUV. Set up with a 2.0-liter four producing 300 hp on E85 Ethanol, and driven by the same four-wheel gear as the Turbo X, the 9-4x is a thoroughly non-Saaburu, sharing a platform with European Cadillacs. We brought you leaked shots of the Saab 9-4X this morning, but now high-res shots are out for all to see. The smallish SUV with a biofuel heart sure does trump the current offerings from the automaker formerly known as Swedish for quirky. Among the interesting features we can see are a slide out ski rack, two sets of captains chairs, and what looks like a glass covered center stack - tres chic. More »

The land that brought you Rembrandt, pannekoeken and the tulip has another surprise hidden in its clogs. It's the Saab 9-4X BioPower concept, apparently leaked prematurely by Dutch auto site AutoTelegraaf. The pics are small, but the news is fairly large; the concept hearkens an imminent arrival of Saab's first small SUV. It's been a long time coming, with rumor mill entries going back to 2005, when a 9-6X mini-ute was to have sprung from the erstwhile Subaru tieup. GM's Swedish 4x4 will reportedly get power from the typical Saabian 2.0-liter turbo four producing 245 horsepower, though 300 is expected under E85 Ethanol juicing. In another installment of Profiles in Badge Engineering Courage, Saab and Cadillac will share a new SUV platform, a new engine and several pints of What Now? That from the UK's Just-Auto, which assures GM is developing the two vehicles to be "very different and specific." As we reported eons ago, those will be the Saab 9-4x and Cadillac BRX (or thereabouts), built on GM's new Theta Premium platform, created from parts lifted from the current Theta platform (Chevy Equinox) and new Epsilon II (read: updated Saab 9-3, Chevy Malibu, etc.) They'll reach showrooms inside of two years to fight the small luxury SUV fight. Whispers about the upcoming Saab 9-4x mini ute and its European Cadillac BLX cousin have been circulating via those lovable sorts at Trollhattan Saab. Now, the Swedish mafia media is in on the act. According to Teknikens V rld — which also commissioned the rendering above — Saab's 9-3 based X3 contender may be shown in concept form as early as the next Detroit show. It's also expected to spawn a similar Caddy for the European market. The Saab watchers at Trollhattan Saab rounded up the latest dirt on the next rebadged (sorry, guys) appropriated GM product to round out the Saab line. Word came down late last year that a new crossover would join the Swedish bunch, culled from GM's upcoming line of midsize CUVs, like the Buick Entourage and Saturn Outlook. Now, Wards talked with Saab Boss Jay Spenchian, who says such a vehicle would substitute the truck-based 9-7X SUV after GM updates the platform that underpins it.
