Wandering around Geneva, a couple of things become readily apparent. First and foremost, this is a rich-ass city. Banks and ultra high end luxury stores are as common as faux hawks, and the Audi RS4 is a commoners' car. Another thing you notice quite quickly is how a city situated between two mountain ranges at the bottom of a giant lake gets kinda windy. I'm not going to step on Chicago's toes, but there may be a lost ear on the Rue De Mont Blanc Bridge. Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne is just fine today after a crash in Switzerland's canton Solothurn. The boss was reportedly traveling at around 60 miles per hour in a 599 GTB, when he rear-ended a Renault driven by an elderly motorist on the A1 motorway. According to a report, the impact caused the Ferrari's airbags to blow up, blocking Marchionne's sight. Subsequently, he lost control and slammed into crash barriers. Police say Marchionne had been unable to slow the car in time for an unexpected traffic jam. No one was hurt, but the $275,000 car was totaled. Back in 2006, when Michiel van den Brink revealed his designs for a tribute to the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, Ferraristi were taken by its curvilinear sex appeal. So taken, that some offered their deep pockets in exchange for one in three dimensions. Now, it appears the designer's turned the spec project into a real, coachbuilding exercise. His company, Vandenbrink Design, announced today five of the GTOs will be built, each one based on the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. The price for the rebody job will start at a stout 993,000 Euros or $1.4 million, which includes interior specialization by Henk van Lith. Two models are in the offing: a 599 GTO with stock 6.0-liter V12 producing 650 hp, and the 630 GTO, which offers some manner of engine tune by EDO Competition to produce 750 hp. Production will start in 2008, the company says, though there's no confirmation that the first buyer will be descended from one of the guys on the Dutch Masters cigar box. The Ferrari-tuners at Novitec Rosso Tuning have announced and revealed press shots of a styling kit for the Ferrari 599 GTB they'll be showing off next month at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The kit's designed to help provide equal tiny parts of both "Go" and the "Show." The kit gives the 599 GTB an additional 25 horses under the hood, popping the horsepower up to 645 from a control unit upgrade and exhaust system with slightly larger 90mm dual tips which are cut at an angle. The slightly new-look lowered front spoiler, side skirts and flaps help to increase the down force, combined with the horsepower boost help bump the top speed of the Ferrari up another 2 miles per hour. It's almost time for some of the world's motoring journalists to take a heavily managed but nonetheless challenging run up the Panamerican Highway, in something Ferrari likes to call the Panamerican 20,000. In two days, journos — "representing the most important publications from all over the world" (says you Ferrari!) — will embark in two Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano models from somewhere the southern hemisphere (Brazil, actually) on an 84-day, tag-team journey that will take them through the Andes mountains, the Dari n Gap (pack your M16s and bug spray, guys) and the messy track through Central America. The product of that video shoot late last year that was reported to show a Ferrari 599GTB Fiorano ripping through canyons of the western US has hit the online. Despite (enhanced by?) lovely French narration by Audrey Tautou (in our mind), the video shows heli-shots of a red 599 being flogged on a road near where the someone from the Donner Party inevitably shouted, "We're almost there!" Delphi announced that they will be making the fancy-schmancy magnetorheological dampers on the new Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. So that means the 599's dampers will be just like ones on MagnaRide-equipped GM vehicles? Let's all hope that the 599's suspension is a little more well sorted out than the one on the Cadillac XLR.
