While Volvo has disappointed Jalopnik readers everywhere with their abandonment of modern wagons in the U.S., they did decide to give us a little gift in the form of the C30 Polestar, a hopped-up version of their attractive-but-pedestrian hatchback.
Now, Volvo says the C30 Polestar has 250 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. But Matt Farah over at The Smoking Tire thinks that may be a bit of an understatement, so they strapped the C30 Polestar to a dyno and came back with some surprising results.
They found that Volvo's electric blue hatch puts out 217 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. That means it's more like 256 horsepower and a whopping 305 pound-feet of torque at the crank. Not bad, Volvo! Farah was right when he said it felt faster than advertised.
But his review of the car isn't exactly glowing. He praises its premium feel and torque, but knocks it for feeling "very numb and isolated" and for having spongy brakes and a weak manual transmission. It's got plenty of power, but he says it's not a true driver's car — yet, anyway.
